Candace - Program Manager

Hi!
I was born and raised in a small town in Southern Arkansas where I grew up in mud and trees. I graduated from Hampton High School and promptly moved to Arkadelphia, AR where I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Spanish. From there, I decided that it would be in my best interest to get some traveling under my belt. I flew into Mexico the September after my May graduation and from there backpacked my way down into Columbia and Peru, hitting the other seven countries in Central America on my way down. I was then certified to teach ESL and flew into Seoul, South Korea where I taught in a private preschool/after school institute for a little over a year. I also visited Japan, China, and spent a few months teaching in Taiwan.

I moved to Austin in November of 2014 and was extremely happy to join the Green Sprout Community shortly there after! I had a moment in South Korea when I realized that my trip had turned more into being about the children that had touched my heart while I was there and less about a means to travel. I decided then that teaching would be where I am most helpful to others. I have always loved children for their curiosity, imagination, resilience, and above all, the massive potential that they all have to become brilliant, kind, and generous individuals. I cannot express how grateful I am to have found an environment that not only prepares children for the academic road that lies in front of them, but also emphasizes how important it is to have good social skills, to respect those around them, to respect the Earth, and to make good and healthy decisions. I am very much looking forward to sharing this new adventure in my life with the children and fellow co-guides at Green Sprout, as well as embracing all that they will teach me.
