Greetings to all! I’m Cassandra Noboa and one of the Primary teachers here at Greensprout Preschool! My family’s originally from the Windy City, but I have spent the majority of my life here in central Texas. Growing up as a child, I was blessed to have a friend and partner in crime with me always, a twin sister. The experience in working as a duo with my sister, Sofia truly has brought shape to the person I am today. I recognize my compassion, patience and awareness of others sentiments is greatly attributed to this life experience.
I had a rich childhood, full of imaginative play. Fascinated with the natural world, I spent many of days out in the natural world. With deep interest in plant life and animals, I grew to understand how I had a responsibility to care and protect those without a voice. As, I grew into young adulthood, I naturally began to put my beliefs into action and started up the first recycling system in my middle school at Katherine Stinson. Volunteered in animal shelters, and even was able to convince my parents into bringing home a dog once! During our school years, my sister and I gravitated to the odd balls and outcasts of our classes. Years later, during my years of college, I took courses in Special Education and was able to make better sense of these different and misunderstood children whom I befriended and also defended.
I guess what I’m trying to connect here, is that the experiences we have in our years of early childhood bring shape and color to the adults we will become. I recognize the beauty and light of children and that is the sole reason why I chose this path of childhood education. I’ve worked in numerous ECE centers as a teenager, and then had the joy to work intimately with a couple of families as a nanny for a span of 7 years. The most impressionable years were with a lovely French Canadian family with three young boys. I began during their mama’s last trimester of the youngest, Emilien and cared, nurtured guided them until almost four years later. When their father’s job relocated them to Virginia, I went head strong into my educational career of Education. I’ve watched in amazement as these bright and loving children continue to grow, as I am fortunate to have the family fly me up every year since, to spend time to visit and catch up!
I graduated last December with a B.S. in Education from Texas State University and then traveled to Puerto Rico to learn and explore what the Jane Goodall Foundation of Roots and Shoots had going on. It is a beautiful environmental outreach program that creates opportunities for children and youth to become stewards of the earth, in respect to the environment, animals and humans.
Due to lack of funding and resources in the Puerto Rico division, it was an apparent learning experience that this effort of mine would need to be revisited at another time of my life. Nevertheless, the adventure and wonderment of the island, as well as my family’s history was easy to delight in! I am a world traveler, from hiking the ancient Incan grounds of Machu Pichu to island hopping on kayak in the Greek islands. I love to experience the eclectic cultures of world, traveling brings all the things I love together, food, art, music and dance, nature, history and the experience of knowing new cultures and its people. As a person of cultural appreciation, I envision my classroom to be a place of celebration of life, individuality, relationships, family, community and the natural world.
Creating a safe environment where the child feels secure and is encouraged to think and investigate openly is fundamental to real and effective learning. When we recognize that the character of a child is a multi- facet one, than we can better understand, guide and teach them.
