Friday Fun!

8/31/2012

Between playing music, having a dance party, blowing bubbles and playing peek a boo in a tent we made, it sure has been a fun-filled Friday! Sandy brought in her guitar this morning and let the children strum on the strings. Walter and Genevieve had a short drumming session on the table with Mike and everyone danced to the Flaming Lips. Later Genevieve and Walter started playing peek a boo with a sheet. After watching them for a while Mike created a tent using the sheet and our activity mat that has crisscrossing arches. They had enormous fun crawling through the tent and lifting up the sides to peek through at each other. Although Julia is not as mobile  as the others in our group she had fun watching them and she spent some time playing with Walter on the activity mat.  Julia was full of smiles all through our dance party!

That is all for today. Please enjoy the pictures. We hope you all have a wonderful long weekend!

Chase, Towers and Music

As often happens, Walter and Genevieve were the first up from nap today. Energized by their rest, they began a game of chase. They chased each other over to the table, where they pulled up and began drumming. Soon they were playing peek a boo, hiding under the table and popping up. They seemed to be having the best time! Next Julia joined in the fun, knocking down towers with Genevieve and rolling balls around. Later, Judah and Tula added some music to the mix. They both love playing the piano and Judah learned how to beat on the big drum!

Hello everybody. Happy hump day! This morning we enjoyed the weather outside on the deck it felt warm with a breeze which was really nice. The children have seemed to really enjoy starting the day outside as well and we plan on continuing this practice as long as the weather is nice. While outside our friends found tent poles left by the older children. Everyone enjoyed playing with these poles. Some friends rolled the poles while others used them to make sounds on the deck. Overall it was a very pleasant morning and everyone seemed very happy to be at school and enjoying the outdoors. After our first nap and lunch we had lots of cuddle time followed by some silly times around the canopy in our cozy area. Everyone was laughing as Jackie played pick-a-boo through the mesh and made funny faces. After we all calmed down from the excitement we sang some quiet songs and read some stories before going down for our afternoon nap.

We want to inform everyone that Jackie will be out Friday and Tuesday for her Bachelorette party. However, Mike, Magdalen, Toni and Sandy will all work to cover her hours.

Rattles and Reflections

Today during free play we brought out the mirrors. Some of the babies crawled on the blue mirror block and found their reflections in the small round mirrors.  Judah played the piano and soon after everyone seemed to want to make music. Julia played a rattle we made from recycled materials while Genevieve, Jackson and Walter shook small wooden rattles. After Judah was finished playing the piano he joined the rest of the crew to shake rattles. It was a fun morning! Enjoy the photos :)

We would like to give a very warm welcome back to Sandy who has been in Portland for the past year but has returned to work in the baby room at GS. Sandy worked at GS for a year in the baby room before moving and is one of Toni's closest friends so we are thrilled to have her back!  Sandy will share her bio with you soon. All of our friends had so much fun playing with Sandy and welcoming her back to our school. We hope you enjoy today's photos!

Today we had so much fun at circle time! During circle time we sing songs including, Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, 10 Little Fingers and Clap Your Hands. You have probably heard us sing all of these songs but if you ever want us to demonstrate for you let us know and we would be glad too. We also read a few stories together and then just had fun relaxing and hanging out with each other. Just a reminder Magdalen will be on vacation Friday and Monday but Jackie will be in the room full time. Have a great day!

Fire Drill

8/20/2012

Today we had a fire drill! Because our friends are not yet walking we loaded them into a pac n play and carried them out to the parking lot. This was a confusing experience for some, but also a welcome adventure. They had fun standing up and observing their friends from the rest of the school. While we were waiting to go back inside many of our toddler and primary friends came to say hello!

Later in the day we listened to a fun song called Fire Truck Fire Truck. We sang, danced and clapped along! Jackie and Magdalen tried to think of other songs about fire or fire related things, but we drew a bit of a blank...any suggestions?

We spent the rest of the day singing, reading stories and napping, as per usual. We hope everyone's week is off to a great start!
