Practical Life: Clothing

 Greetings, daisy families!

We've had a fantastic week in the classroom! Our theme for the month is practical life; I'm excited to introduce the babes to the many activities we have in store for the upcoming weeks!  You may be wondering, how on earth are we going to teach infants about practical life skills? Well it may be true, that many children are actually not ready to fully participate in help with chores until around 15 months of age, but i believe it's never too early to allow children to learn about and absorb these important and very beneficial skills.

Throughout the week we introduced the babes to many practical life exercises such as caring for the environment, which meant tidying up the classroom alongside Ms. Jenn & myself, we also discussed thee importance of washing our clothes.

One of the activities everyone seemed to enjoy was folding/placing clothing back into what we like to call our "treasure basket" Ms. Jenn & I filled this basket with plenty of different textured fabrics and articles of clothing that would stimulate the daisies curiosity. They definitely seemed to enjoy exploring and playing dress-up with all of the brightly colored & shiny, glitter filled costumes!

During our daily circle time activity we used an empty cardboard box as our "washing machine" we set this up in our naptime area AKA laundry room. Haha!

We then had our older friends follow us to the washing machine, we did our best to model for them how to pick an item out of the clothing basket and place it into the washing machine. In classic Montessori style, we didn't use many words. Instead, we just modeled it with exaggerated actions. All of our friends watched us repeat the demonstration several times, and our older friends instantly attempted to mimic our actions, while our younger friends sat back and observed.

We ended the week by helping the babes decorate their very own Tshirts! Austin and Claire were elated to help decorate some of the younger daisies tees. This week was a success!

songs of the week:

Colored Clothes!

(sung to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It")

If your clothes have any red, any red,
If your clothes have any red, any red,
If your clothes have any red,
Put your hands up on your head,
If your clothes have any red, any red.

If your clothes have any blue, any blue, If your clothes have any blue, any blue, If your clothes have any blue,
Put your finger on your shoe,
If your clothes have any blue, any blue.

If your clothes have any green, any green,
If your clothes have any green, any green,
If your clothes have any green,
Wave your hand so you are seen,
If your clothes have any green, any green,

If your clothes have any yellow, any yellow,
If your clothes have any yellow, any yellow,
If your clothes have any yellow,
Laugh like a happy fellow,
If your clothes have any yellow, any yellow.

ha, ha, ha!

If your clothes have any white, any white,
If your clothes have any white, any white,
If your clothes have any white,
Give a hug with all your might,
If your clothes have any white, any white,

If your clothes have any black, any black,
If your clothes have any black, any black,
If your clothes have any black,
Pat your neighbour on the back,
If your clothes have any black, any black,

If your clothes have any brown, any brown,
If your clothes have any brown, any brown,
If your clothes have any brown,
Make a smile like a clown,
If your clothes have any brown, any brown.

Baa Baa Black Sheep

Baa baa black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.

One for the master,
And one for the dame,
One for the little boy,
Who lives down the lane.

Baa baa white sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.

One to mend a jumper,
One to mend a frock,
And one for the little boy,
With holes in his socks.

Baa baa grey sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.

One for the kittens,
One for the cats,
And one for the guinea pigs,
To knit some wooly hats.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!!!

Love,
Crystal

OMG so many super cute photos! Enzo looks like he's working hard on his shirt :) The pics of the babies dressed up are awesome! I love the pic of Enzo happily chewing on the frog hat.
