Liz - Co-Owner and Co-Founder

Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, many of my greatest childhood memories take place in the great outdoors of the Emerald State. In addition to frequently hiking, camping, and walking the beaches of Puget Sound, I spent much of my childhood free time playing “house” with my friends and cousins. I found great pride in taking care of my dolls. My desire to nurture children became a reality when I began work as a nanny, camp counselor, math and science tutor, coach, volunteer at Seattle Children’s Hospital, and teacher in a Montessori preschool.

Growing up in a family with a doctor and a scientist for parents, I was introduced to the importance of sustainable living at an early age. My desire to better understand our world from a scientific standpoint, as well as my passion for children, guided my path in college. I graduated from Occidental College in 2008 with a B.A. in Psychobiology and a Minor in Education. After graduation, I knew I wanted to teach but I also knew I wanted to venture out and see the world. I decided to pack up my car and head south to Austin, Texas.

Within two months of moving to Austin, I met Toni Tornero at a local preschool where we were both teaching at the time. She and I had an immediate connection and began fantasizing about our “dream” preschool. Within less than a year of knowing each other we made our dream a reality. After running successfully for two years, I decided to continue my education and took a sabbatical to complete a yoga teacher training in Costa Rica, attend a plant-based culinary school, The Natural Epicurean, and enrich my life through travelling the world. I am excited to be back at Green Sprout so that I can bring my newfound knowledge and experiences to the Green Sprout community.
