A rainy Thursday!

It’s been a rainy Thursday, and we’re happy to be receiving it! We started our day on the playground with Sophie being our first friend to arrive. We’re so glad she’s feeling better and back at school! Her teeth had been bothering her all week but not today. She’s good to go! Yay!

Noah arrived next, followed by Clara and Wynn (at the same time) and Ancel. We all played outside in the overcast weather for a while before heading in for snack and signing the word “eat” as we rallied the tots. Before eating we washed our hands and the friends who were waiting to use the sink sat on the floor and enjoyed Arielle singing Old MacDonald to them to pass the time. Then we ate some tasty apples and discussed the calendar, counting the days both in Spanish and English.

During circle time Wynn sat in Arielle’s lap and everybody else sat on their own. We talked about how nice it was to have Sophie back and how we already miss Olive, who left for Arizona today (returning on Monday.) We sang the Hello song and then read a book about tractors, which they really like. Then we discussed the color white and pointed out a few white objects and clothes we were wearing, and talked about our art and sensory activity we would be doing later this afternoon involving the color white. Then Mr. Bubbles the monkey puppet gave everybody kisses and sang a song about our names, then asked Cherokee if we could go to the deck. On the way there the tots were very interested in what the toddlers were doing in their classroom (eating snack) and moving through the primary room was easy since the primary class was outside.

On the deck Wynn and Clara immediately found some balloons to play with. Noah was all about cuddling with the teachers. Sophie explored her surroundings thoroughly. Ancel made his way to the top of the playscape, as usual. Eventually he joined Clara by the potted plants and they both started pulling leaves off the pineapple plant that was growing, so we talked to them about why we should leave them alone and let them grow. Wynn found a cardboard box to sit in (very cute; he fit perfectly.) Noah switched from Arielle’s lap (so she could document) over to Cheorkee’s, and both Clara and Ancel decided they wanted to join him, so Cherokee let all three sit on her lap. It was very heartwarming to see all four of them in a big cuddle puddle. Then Ancel got down and his boot happened to slip off his foot, so he attempted to put it back on. We eventually had to help him out since it was a difficult task for the little guy.

Sophie snuggled up on the boppy playing outside and then tried to get herself onto a chair to sit, knocking it over accidentally (which didn’t phase her.) Noah continued to relax on Cherokee’s lap after Clara dismounted and suddenly it started to sprinkle! Clara, Ancel and Wynn were amazed and quite joyful to experience the sensation of light rain falling on them. We encouraged them to stand under the awning instead of in the rain, but they were very happy where they were. The sprinkling stopped after a minute, then started back up, then stopped, and then started back up again. Eventually it started raining harder and we all went inside. As we walked through the toddler room it stopped raining (Texas has such crazy weather) and the toddler teachers told us that they were going to get some playground time in, so we joined them and headed straight back outside (to the playground.)

The pre-tots had fun hanging out with the toddlers, and by that point Noah was ready to leave our laps and explore. However, it didn’t take long for the rain to return, and this time it hit us heavy and hard, so we went inside and started lunch a little early. In effect, nap was a little early too, but this weather and the allergies going around seemed to knock our little sprouts out quickly. It rained on and off during nap, and the teachers enjoyed hearing the rain hit the windows and roof as the relaxing nap music played (Kapulataro Tree is the name of the artist the listen to as they sleep.)

After nap we ate snack and did some painting with white paint and added glitter to it for an extra touch of sensory experience. We also enjoyed playing in the room but missed our good friend Leona, who usually comes on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but is home with her sick daughter, Alma.

It’s been a fun and wild Thursday. We’ll see what tomorrow holds! See you Friday!
