a super active indoor day!

Even though we stayed inside all day due to the very, very cold weather (according to us Texans), we had an incredibly active day today! We started off by playing some fun Cuban music (more of Wynn’s mix.) During arrivals, Genevieve and Jackson enjoyed playing with some trains. Noah and Sophie built towers with the big blocks. Wynn looked at books (he’s really been into the ones in our classroom lately.) Olive worked on puzzles. Clara checked things out and stomped around in her big, awesome boots. During morning snack, Ancel arrived, and gave Wynn lots of hugs after eating. In fact, the hugs lasted all day!

We went over the calendar and had circle time, where we sang a new welcoming song (“one, two, three, say hello to ___”), talked about ears and other parts of the face. We read a book about body parts and made some animal noises (they are pros at it now!) We then received kisses on specific parts of our bodies from our stuffed elephant and gave it hugs. Cherokee made and played different sounds for the kiddos afterwards, which they really enjoyed, and talked about how we use our ears to listen to sounds.

After circle time the Latin music continued as we water colored.  Some friends were finished with the activity quickly, while others took their time and really enjoyed painting. Overall, everybody had lots of fun painting.

We went back to playing in the classroom afterwards. Genevieve and Clara liked feeling the pine cones, Jackson stacked blocks, Wynn played with puppets, Ancel looked at books, Olive cleaned up the circle time rugs, Noah played with stackers, and Sophie continued painting at the table.

We cleaned up and ate lunch, in which we talked about he different types of food our friends were eating. We also talked about the weather. After lunch, we gave the big, stuffed bear some hugs before settling down in our nap mats.

After nap we blew bubbles and danced a bit more. Cherokee and I kept reminding the kids that Abby, our yoga teacher, was coming soon. We encouraged them to say “Abby” and give her lots of hugs when she arrived.

Yoga was very fun active. Yesterday the tots were calm and collected as she taught her class, but today they were all over the place, which was perfectly fine (perhaps a result of staying inside all day.) Some friends showed her how to do downward dog as she sang Old MacDonald. She also sang familiar songs such as If You’re Happy and You Know It (with a yoga twist) and The Itsy Bitsy Spider. After class she received the most hugs yet! Yay!

After yoga we read books and danced to Yo Gabba Gabba, Dr. Jean Sings Silly Songs, Sophie’s music (Gigi) and Olive’s dance mix. At the very end of the day we transitioned to the toddler room for departures (it was too cold to go outside) and then by 5:00 we went to the primary room. The sprouts who were still at school by that point had a blast in the other classrooms.

Today was such a fun day!
