Hi there, families!
We had a blast today in the pre-tot room! Wynn brought his "Cat in the Hat" hat to school today and he nicely let his friends try it on. Everyone loved it! Tula, Judah and Ancel most enjoyed wearing the hat. We read "Green Eggs and Ham" during circle time. As often happens, Genevieve seemed particularly interested in hearing the story. After circle we headed out to the deck so our friends could move around and use up some of their energy. Hunter and Wynn made some music on the drum and Kai had a blast riding around on the dragon. After nap we got out our Lorax pages and finished drawing on them. Everyone seemed to really enjoy using the crayons. The drawings are hanging up in our classroom. Out on the playground Nick brought out some dry ice in a bucket of soapy water. We watched as the soap bubbled higher and higher. I scooped some bubbles out and Jackson and Kai had fun popping the bubbles in my hand. I hope everyone is having a great evening! Enjoy the pics. <3 Magdalen Happy Tuesday friends! I hope everyone is having a great day. We've had a super day! We're really enjoying this beautiful sunshine and cool air; it won't be around for long, that's for sure. This week we are focusing on Dr. Seuss! We did our normal routine as usual for circle time, but we also read “In a People House”. Our friends are really enjoying this book. We will probably read it everyday this week. The more they see the images and hear the words, the more interested they are in the content of the book. For our activity today we experimented with play-dough. Before our friends even got to touch the play dough I made sure to give a lesson about how we don't eat the play-dough, because I'm sure it's very tempting to put in our mouth. With that said, everyone did a great job exploring the play-dough. No one put it in their mouth, and everyone found different ways to enjoy it. Some friends were squishing it, some friends rolled it, and other friends used tools. We talked about how it smelled, what color it was, and different shapes we could make. In the afternoon we had yoga! We sang Old McDonald and practiced poses of the different animals we sang about. We also practiced our downward dogs and sang some Ohms. Everyone was being very sweet and giving Miss Abbey lots of hugs and cuddles. We are selling raffle tickets to help raise money for the school. We have put them near the sign in sheet when you walk in the room. Please make sure and tell your family/friends about the tickets. They are 2 for a dollar. I hope you all have a fantastic week! xoxo Sandy
Good evening friends, Despite it being rainy outside we spent much of our day in motion. During circle time we sang the following song to encourage our friends to move their bodies in different ways (I’ll use Ashley’s name but we go around the circle and sing the song to each child) Ashley Ashley jump up and down Turn around, touch the ground. Ashley Ashley jump up and down Sit back down. This song is a fun way to build awareness of others in the class (by using each child’s name and giving them each a turn) and the children get excited about having their turn to dance around even if they’re not jumping or turning around as the song says. We followed this up by bringing out a bucket of balls which the children had a great time rolling, throwing, kicking and bouncing. Because we weren't able to go outside in the afternoon we had a dance party in our room and later joined the toddlers in their classroom for some stories and songs. We finished out the day in the primary room where everyone sat around the big table and read books. Even though we did a lot of moving around in our classroom today we definitely missed getting our outside time! <3 Magdalen p.s. Please excuse the blurriness of some of these photos, the camera on my phone doesn't capture motion well. Happy Tuesday everyone! I hope that you all had a wonderful 3 day weekend! Ashley and I were talking about how much we missed our kiddos today. Three days is too long! J We had another fabulous day. We are starting week three since our classroom rotations and I can really see the progress. It’s amazing to see the change that happens in such a short time. For instance, we’ve been working on staying in our seat until we have finished eating our lunches. There has been really great progress in this area. Our friends are doing really well sitting still and also saying “all done” either verbally or showing the sign for it. If you see this happening at home please help out by encouraging this behavior. Another area of focus in the classroom has been clean up time. We’ve been singing the clean up song regularly, and the kids really like it. They immediately know what to do when they hear us start singing. It’s really nice to see that light bulb go off in their head and they start grabbing toys to put in the basket and books to put on the shelf. This week we are talking about action/motion. We introduced two new songs for circle time. One song is Five Little Monkeys, and the other song is from Eric Carle’s book “I Can Do It”. If you know these, or even have the book, please share them with your child regularly. This will help tie the school and home environment together. For our sensory project today we did some arts and crafts. I brought out hand-shaped foam cutouts for the kids to paste colored felt balls on. They really enjoyed using the glue stick! I think it was their favorite part. In the afternoon we did yoga with Abbey. Everyone is getting better at putting their hands together and humming the Ohm. I really let them know in advance when we are having yoga by saying Abbey’s name a lot and practicing our downward dogs, so if you hear them repeat Abbey at home, that’s why.. hah. We recently had a kiddo go home today with the stomach bug, so let’s try and stay healthy! Everyone have a wonderful Wednesday. Xoxo Sandy Happy Friday All! We had a lovely day today at Green Sprout! I was not at school in the morning, but it looks like everyone had a blast dancing and playing on the playground! This afternoon Mr. Nick worked with me in the pre-tot room, which was a lot of fun! The children are already comfortable with him so it was very natural to have him in our room. After a solid nap we had our first cooking class with Ms. Liz :) We mixed up sun butter, oats, dates, raisins, coconut flakes and dried pineapple pieces and made them into gooey balls. The children enjoyed feeling the textures of the sticky sun butter, the dry oats, and the hard and squishy fruit. And of course they loved eating it! After cooking we went outside a little early to enjoy the beautiful weather. I hope everyone has a wonderful long weekend! <3 Magdalen P.S. I’m sorry that I missed most of the love celebration yesterday. I hope everyone had a wonderful valentine’s day! Thank you all for the sweet valentines and for bringing so much love to our community!
