Squares, Squares Everywhere!

Happy Sunday, Sprout families!

Another wonderful week in the Tulip class. Continuing our February theme of shapes, we focused on squares this week.
Our square-related song was : "If I had a little white box to my _________ in, I'd take him/her out and *kiss kiss kiss* and share him/her with my friend" And we read 2 books about shapes! Next week for triangles, Avey is letting us borrow a few of his books with us!

Monday: President's Day/PDO

On Tuesday we talked about squares to our Tulips during circle time and passed around different sized squares/cubes, some with a color in the middle. During our time outside, we also gave the opportunity for the children to color with the toddler classroom outside on the bench which they really seemed to enjoy.

On Wednesday we got to decorate a big box with stickers! We also reinforced the concept of squares. Repetition, repetition, repetition!

On Thursday we implemented Montesorri box puzzles during our circle time and gave every child the opportunity to try.

During our Spanish lesson with Ms. Daphne we learned a new word, "oso", which is bear in Spanish. Daphne brought in a teddy bear and we practiced giving besos (kisses) and hugs (abrazo). I noticed that all of our tulips loved giving the oso kisses.

Friday was our dance party! (My favorite) We did a community graffiti project where each sprout received a cup of paint, a paint brush and was then set free to leave their artistic mark wherever they pleased around our playground! This was a very fun project that I and our sprouts thoroughly enjoyed.

Next week we're focusing on triangles! Avey is letting us borrow some of his books on triangles so we are really excited to explore them with everyone.

See you all on Monday!

Much love,

Jackie S.

Love in our Hearts :)

Hello Tulip Families!

I hope you all are enjoying this beautiful weekend! Last week we focused on the heart shape and on love! Throughout the week we worked on identifying the shape of a heart. We also talked a lot about how we treat our friends and how we show affection. We practiced using gentle touches on a cat-shaped pillow and we gave hugs and blew kisses at our friends. Some of our friends have been a little rough lately, so we thought this was a perfect time to really take some extra time out of our days to work with each child on touching with gentle hands. If you notice your child is being too rough at home you can touch him or her gently and then take his or her hand and touch it lightly to your arm or where ever your child was being rough.

We also made hearts out of our footprints. The children seemed to enjoy sticking their feet in the white paint and then stepping on red paper. Afterwards they were able to see the shape of their feet. We also spent some time in silence listening to the sound of a heartbeat. We started by placing our hands over our own hearts and then we turned on the sound machine which has a heartbeat setting. The children stayed so quiet and still as they listened to the ba-bum, ba-bum.

Our favorite song of the week was definitely Skidamarink! For those of you who don't know the words, it goes...

Skidamarink a-dink, a-dink,
Skidamarink a-doo,
I love you. (2x)

I love you in the morning,
And in the afternoon;
I love you in the evening,
And underneath the moon.

Oh, skidamarink a-dink, a-dink,
Skidamarink a-doo,
I love you.

On Friday we made whipped cream during cooking. Mr. Mike put some cream in a container and the children and teachers took turns shaking it. Everyone loved eating it with strawberries!

Thank you all so much for all the Valentine's day love! We appreciate you all so much; you are what makes our community so special!

Greetings Families!

Hope you all are enjoying this sunny weather we've had this weekend, let's hope it lasts!

Despite the on going wacky weather we've been having, the Tulip classroom continued to have a wonderful week. Our week was full of learning new songs (Spanish and English), art projects, and incorporating new yoga songs (or perhaps just new to me).

On Monday we incorporated toilet paper rolls into our art activity and created stamps. The kids got to dip the toilet paper roll into paint and stamp it onto colorful construction paper. We also had the pleasure of having Ms. Anne come and teach yoga with us. My favorite song that we sing with the kids goes a little something like this: "The cows are in the meadows eating butter cups, thunder, lightning, we all stand up!" And all the while we're on our hands and knees in cow pose.

On Tuesday we used googly eyes for our morning project. Our little Tulips each got a circle cut from construction paper and got to stick little (or big) googly eyes on their circle. They really seemed to enjoy it! In the afternoon we had yoga with Ms. Vanessa. We did Tick Tock Little Yoga clock, and sang the song which I'll call "My Little Light." And that song lyrics are, "My little light bows to your little light (x's 3), my little light bows to your little light, namaste." And
each time we say "my little light" we put our hands together and we point at each child.

On Wednesday (I missed the morning) but we had a drum circle!! Magdalen and Cherokee said everyone really enjoyed it, and the pictures show it! We also included the xylophone, shakers, maracas, and the other instruments that are in our classroom.

On Thursday we incorporated our Montessori learning toys and had each child play and look through circles that had different colors inside. Everyone really seemed intrigued by putting it up to their eyes and seeing how everything was a different color.

Friday was a snow day.

During our circle time this week we really focused on the shape of a circle. We sang "The Wheels on the Bus" and "Ring around the Rosey."

Next week we will be focusing on hearts! We are also having a potluck on Friday from 4:15-6:00 to celebrate "Love Day" ! I am VERY excited about that :D

See you all on Monday!

Much love,

Jackie S.

Sunny & Cloudy Weather!!!

Hello Tulip Fams!

What crazy weather we have been having! It kind of reminds me of that Katy Perry song "Hot 'n Cold," this weather just cannot make up its mind!!! LoL.

On Monday we used toilet paper rolls and cut slits into them to create a Sun effect. Our little tulips got to dip them in yellow and orange paint and stamp them on paper to create little suns. We also got to do yoga with Miss Anne. She started off with the "Rub your Hands" song and then taught our little yogis a new song called "Ring around the Yogi" sung to the tune of "Ring around the Rosy."

Tuesday we had a snow day.

On Wednesday we added some clouds to our painted suns we had created on Monday by gluing cotton balls to it. We went around the table and gave each of our little tulips some cotton balls. We then showed them how we dip the cotton into the bowl of glue and then pat the cotton onto the paper. Miss Daphne also joined us in the afternoon and did a Spanish activity using colors and numbers. She brought in two puzzles; one with colored fish, and the other with colored numbers. Each of our kiddos took turns placing a puzzle piece back to its proper place.

On Thursday we did an activity to help prepare for our Chinese New year potluck celebration! Phew! Since the color red is a symbol of good fortune or good luck, we used red paper and had our kiddos decorate them with markers. We then stapled them into a cylinder shape and tied a string on it to create a paper lantern for our outside decor during the potluck. In the afternoon our Spanish teacher,  miss Daphne, joined us and did an activity using our little kitchen area. She named all the different fruits and vegetables in the little red basket and handed them to each of our kiddos. She also pretended to drink tea and asked each kiddo to pour some tea into her cup.

On Friday we began our morning with some music and dancing! Then one of our primary class friends, Dax, brought his Dragon kite to share with the school. It was very windy outside, so we all helped trying to get the kite to go up. It was no easy task due to the tail being so long, but that didn't stop us from trying! Our little tulips watched as we attempted to get the kite going. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in the morning, but in the afternoon we tried again and got it to go up!

Next month we will be doing shapes.

Have a great weekend!
