Today was a busy, bittersweet day! We interacted in many activities but are sad to see our friend Judah graduate from Green Sprout!
We started off in the backyard, sliding down slides, steering boats and pushing trucks! There were loads of hugs and kisses for Judah all day long!
After a long nap, Senor Ryan visited us again with bubbles and a book about spiders! He speaks to our friends in spanish, but follows the phrase with english. It's pretty cool! : ) When he left, Genevieve said "Adiossss!" hehehehe
At the end of the day, our friends listened to a special announcement about Judah and gave him the card we made for him!
We will miss you Judah!!!!!! <3 <3 <3

Wriggly Wednesday

Hello Families,

Yesterday we learned about the ocean, gardened, and made cards for our friends who are leaving. During circle time we read "Silly Sea" which Kai brought in to share with us. It was filled with pop-out animals that live in the ocean and the children had a blast "snapping" like lobsters, "wriggling" like octopuses and playing "peek-a-boo" like sharks! It is so much fun to see our friends become so excited about learning!

We spent the rest of the morning outside where we worked in the garden, digging holes to put the plants in and sprinkling dirt on top. We also put our hand prints on pieces of construction paper which we will give to our friends who are leaving the school. The children always love using paint.

In the afternoon Señor  Ryan came in for Spanish class. He sang them "Twinkle Twinkle" and the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" in both English and Spanish. They loved it!

Thank you to everyone who brought in books and other ocean-related objects this week! Both the children and the teachers love having new books to read and the children enjoy sharing their favorite stories from home with their friends.

Have a great Thursday!

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Welcome to another fabulous week at the GS. I hope that everyone had a lovely 3 day weekend. This week we are focusing on the ocean. Today we spent time reading books that our friends brought in to share with the class. We talked about water, sand, and different types of fish that you find in the ocean. Tula shared her stuffed dolphin and Magdalen brought in some seashells for everyone to explore. We had an extra long circle time examining shells; feeling the different textures and looking at all the pretty colors. We even put our ears up against them to see if we could hear the ocean.

During our outside time we got down and dirty with some paint. We used blue and green paint to create the ocean. Everyone was really excited to get their hands nice and dirty. It was also nice to focus on two colors during painting; a good review on blue and green. After painting we filled up the water sensory table with water and soap and washed our hands and bellies!

In the afternoon we had yoga with Chelsea. Abby is sick so she could not be here today. Chelsea was very nice and in tune with the kids interests. She brought a tibetan singing bowl to class for everyone to take turns tapping and listening to the sound. We sang Old McDonald and a few of our regular songs before tapping the singing bowl one more time. All of our friends were so sweet and nice to Chelsea; they even gave her hugs at the end of yoga like they do with Abby. It was really adorable.

Fly Away Balloon

Today we had a blast with balloons! After blowing up the balloons the teachers drew happy, sad, mad and silly faces on them. We talked about the different emotions and the children made faces to match the balloons. We had great fun throwing, bouncing and holding the balloons.

Our friends have been showing lots of love recently, giving each other hugs and showing concern when a friend is hurt or upset. They have also been very chatty with each other and they working on using their words to tell their friends what they want. It is such a joy to watch them learn!

Have a fabulous weekend, everyone! Just a reminder that we will be closed on Monday. Sandy will be doing a parents' day out on Monday, so let her know if you want to sign up for that.

See you Tuesday!

Happy Thursday, Friends!

This morning we filled one of the sensory tables with water and soap, which created a thick, bubbly foam for the children to explore. Judah brought a rubber ducky to school today and we gave it a bath in the bubbles. Genevieve and Wynn put soap in each other’s hair, saying that it was shampoo. Miles splashed the bubbles all over himself. Kai floated a boat in the water and Tula enjoyed sticking her hands under the bubbles in the water.

In the afternoon Jackie came into our classroom for Spanish! She read the book “Elmer’s Colors” or “Los Colores de Elmer” in Spanish. She also sang “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” and “Twinkle, Twinkle,” in both English and Spanish and “Dos manitos, diez deditos” in Spanish.  The children loved it!

See you in the morning!

Well we had another great day at Green Sprout! We spent the morning outside enjoying the glorious weather before it got too hot. Judah and Genevieve laughed back and forth, making silly faces at each other while Genevieve ran away and then back again laughing. Tula showed us her sad and happy faces. Jackson carefully poured sand from a bottle into a plate which he offered to his teachers.  Wynn and Sophie put on sunglasses and toured the playground.  Hunter and Julia played together with a big green ball and Kai used a digger in the sandbox.

After nap we looked through some magazines to find pictures of people smiling. The kids helped us find the pictures and we talked about how they looked happy or like they were having fun. We cut the pictures of smiling faces out of the magazines and we’ll use them for an art project later in the week.

Our friends are using more and more words every day and it is so much fun to watch them learn to express themselves. This week we have been talking a lot about expressing our emotions and using our words to communicate with our friends and teachers. They wonderful learners!

Much love to all,

Magdalen

How are you feeling today?

Happy Tuesday everyone!

We had a lovely day here in the pre-tot room. In the morning we spent time watering the garden, eating parsley, and picking dill for our caterpillar friends. Genevieve and Tula pushed cars, Jackson picked out treats from the garden, Judah went up and down the slide, while Kai and Wynn enjoyed cooking in the kitchen.

Our circle time today was just magnificent. Many of our friends are talking up a storm and it's amazing to see how incredible their memory is at such a young age. This week we were continuing talking about feelings. When discussing the images up on our board almost all of our friends remembered who the people were and how they were feeling. We also practiced our happy, sad, and angry faces. We also painted angry faces with red paint. Everyone enjoyed painting “back and forth, back and forth”. They are becoming such good artists.

Don't forget that we are closed next Monday. If you need childcare I will be hosing a Parent's Day Out. Sign up sheets are in the front of the school and in our classroom. I hope everyone has a lovely week.

Good evening!
Our pre-tots had an eventful day! We had our friends Ronav & Miles from the infant class come play with us! They are such friendly boys!
We started out in the backyard as usual, taking turns sliding down the kangaroo climber, watering the garden and pushing our popular cars. Tula and Kai helped me feed our caterpillar friends in our new caterpillar sanctuary! Our bug friends really enjoy the fresh dill, cabbage and random leaves. There are atleast 10 future Monarch butterflies in their second stage of life!
We had yummy Honeydew and Craisens for snack, followed by circle time..where we traded happy and sad faces : )
I've heard some wonderful stories from our mommies about some silly/happy/sad faces at home! YAY!
Abby came for Yoga & sang her many songs and afternoon snack consisted of steamed red potatoes and carrots...yumms!
Since the weather is getting warmer, we've got some ideas brewing about fitting in another afternoon activity to limit the sun fun! Stay tuned!

Hugs,

If You're Happy and You Know It

Happy Wednesday everyone!

We had a rainy start to our day, but it didn't stop us from having an awesome morning. We brought in some new toys to enjoy such as a tool kit with many awesome building essentials, and a medical kit. Genevieve enjoyed checking my heartbeat while Wynn and Sophie measured each other with the tape measure. Julia and Tula enjoyed reading books while Kai and Judah pushed cars. Jackson enjoyed using the hammer to nail push pins in the wall and Hunter fixed things with the screwdriver.

In the afternoon we painted happy faces with yellow paint. We asked our friends if they were happy today and if they could show us a smile. They really enjoyed the painting project. They were all able to manage painting with a paint brush and did quite well. We're glad the sun came out in the afternoon so that we could go play outside! Woo! I hope everyone is having a lovely week.

I'm Happy, I'm Sad

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Welcome to feelings week! This week we are talking all about the different emotions we have and also how to express ourselves. We will be talking about happy, sad, excited, angry, focused, and silly. Today during circle time we looked at all of our toddler friends hanging on our circle time wall and discussed how they were feeling. We sang, “If you're happy and you know it”, and we also read a book that Jackson brought to share with the class. We then played with face puppets which had a happy face on one side and a sad face on the other. We practiced making happy and sad faces with one another.

In the afternoon we had yoga with Abby and perfected our butterfly pose and our namaste song. I think everyone's favorite part is giving Abby hugs at the end. Everyone is also getting really good at stretching their legs out when it's time for the butterfly tow wake up after sleeping.

During outside time in the afternoon we played with water at the sensory table. Jackson and Miles splashed around in the water together. Sophie pushed the red cart all over the place. Genevieve carried around buckets of sand, and Judah had a fun time wearing my sunglasses. Tula jumped up and down on the colorful car and Kai watched Dom make large bubbles. It was a hot afternoon, but we stayed cool in the water and shade.
