Emotions (And Catch- Up!)

Happy Monday Families!

Wow! It's been a few weeks since we've updated the blog, so there's a bunch to catch up on. I'll stay focused on what we did this previous week but the photos at the bottom are going to be from the entire month.

During our Circle Time we have been focusing a lot on emotions and feelings. We have been reading various books on the topic such as "Baby Happy, Baby Sad" (thanks, Rye!) and a book about a bear where you match facial expressions to the bear's description (thanks, Lyla!). All very fun and relevant. I also used examples during the day when a friend was crying or was upset I would use that as an opportunity to ask another friend how they thought that child was feeling.

We sang a few different songs this week. "If You're Happy and You Know It" and the "I Love You" ("I love you, you love me that's how simple life should be")

We did a lot of fun art activities this past week. We used chalk, paint, crayons, markers and stickers. Perfect for working those fine motor skills.  We also did an activity using balloons with different emotions on them. I drew sad, angry, happy faces and whatever emotion they were experiencing at the time they got to hold that balloon. They were all so happy just to see the balloons so there were a lot of smiley faces. We had fun making silly faces out of playdoh and incorporating googly eyes.

These next few weeks as we finish out the summer I wanted to take this time to not just focus on one topic in particular but use it as sort of a "grab bag" if you will. I have been doing a lot of pinteresting and seeing activities (a lot of sensory) that I think the kiddos would absolutely love. And then we will start off our new school year with the regular curriculum.

Best,

Jackie
