Messy Monday :)))

Hello pre-tot families! It has been such a beautiful day today and I am loving this weather we are having! As you all may have noticed, it was a little wet outside this morning which made our day a little bit messier than usual, however, I think it’s great. What messy days mean to me is that our kiddos are getting to explore more of their world in a different state of matter. It is such a great learning opportunity when they see how different things feel when they are wet versus dry.

Today we welcomed our new friend Sophie into our classroom!  She is doing so great in our class and getting to know all of her surroundings. I love how she just jumped right into the flow of things and wasn’t hesitant to explore the world around her. She is getting along so well with the other pre-tots and blending right in.

This morning Olive went into the garden and picked some fresh basil leaves and ate them. I think she really likes basil leaves because she ate like 3 or 4 of them.

Ancel is getting so good at going down the slide all by himself! Of course one of us is always near the slide when they go down, but I am definitely impressed at how well he does considering how young he is.

Wynn spent the morning pretending to blow bubbles from a bubble wand he found lying on the ground. Naturally he tried putting it in his mouth, but I showed him how we use our air to blow through the little hole.

Hunter seemed to really enjoy walking around the playground with Miss Arielle; it won’t be long before she starts walking all by herself. She also enjoyed some time playing with the hula hoops.

After playing outside for a little while and exploring all the wet earth, we went inside for snack and diaper changes. As we ate our snack we went over the days of the week and sang our “Days of the Week” song. The kids love this song and seem to enjoy watching us as we sing it. Wynn always gets a huge smile on his face whenever we begin to sing it. Once we were finished with snack, we all sat in a circle on the carpet and had circle time where we sang the “Hello Song” and “Zoom, Zoom.” Ancel really likes “Zoom, Zoom,” and I think it’s because we count down from 10 and then all shoot our hands up in the air like a rocket. Sophie got to sit in Miss Arielle’s lap during circle time and she did so well at participating! We also looked at books that had the color red in them and pointed out the objects that were red.

Once circle time was over we all headed out to the deck. Due to the rain over the weekend, we had some small containers that had been left out and filled with water, so once the kiddos saw them they went straight for it. Olive, Ancel, Wynn and Sophie loved splashing the water. The carpet we have out there was wet as well and Ancel took off his shoes and got to feel and squish the wet carpet between his toes.

In the afternoon, we went over the color red again and used red crayons, markers, and colored pencils to make a red picture. I think I heard Hunter trying to say the word “red” at one point as we were talking about it.

After art, we had a little dance party as we were getting ready to go outside. Wynn was gettin’ “jiggy wit it” and shaking his hips up and down. Sophie and Hunter were dancing in their chairs and smiling at me as I was attempting to show them my dance moves.

What a great start to our week, and there is still lots to do. I look forward to seeing all of our smiley faces tomorrow!

So glad they had a fun day splashing in the wetness the rain left behind. I also wanted to tell y'all that Olive has taken to eating basil leaves off of our plant at home. In fact, we can't walk past it without her stopping for a little snack!
