Today was so much fun! We started off with circle time where we reviewed all the veggies we learned about earlier in the week. We read a book about tractors and sang “Old McDonald.” We also showed the children some beets and talked about how they are roots, like carrots, that grow under the earth. Then we gave each child a piece of paper with the outline of a beet drawn on it and a chunk of a raw beet. They had a great time stamping and brushing the red “paint” onto the paper. Unlike most of the paints we use, we let them put the beets in their mouths, and some of them munched away! This activity was a great way to really explore this vegetable using touch, taste, smell, sight, and sound (as they stamped the beets into the paper on the table). And they got to make some sweet art! In the afternoon we headed to the deck for splash time. Today Nick set up a hanging sprinkler that was made out of a PVC pipe with holes out of which the water sprayed. Each time we have a splash day the children become more and more comfortable with the water. Today everyone really got into it in their own way. Miles splashed in the sensory table and stood under the sprinkler, having a ball! Kai pushed around a wheelbarrow, collecting water that streamed down from the sprinkler. Genevieve stayed relatively dry, but had a great time filling containers with water and then dumping them out. Jackson sat in a bucket of water, splashed and played with some little fishies. Tula and Julia had so much fun dancing and splashing together in a tub of water--one of them would stomp her feet in the water, then the other would join in, then they would both laugh. What a great summer day :) I hope you all had a great day as well! Much love always, Magdalen
