Tuesday fun!

Today we had only pre-tots in the class (Olive, Wynn, and Clara.) Today was my (Arielle’s) first full day to spend with Wynn and Clara. We all arrived outside on the playground and then went in for snack. Clara greeted everybody several times (“hi!”) Olive was in a great mood, probably because she felt more comfortable hanging out with her pre-tot friends instead of her older toddler friends.

After snack Olive and I looked at books while Wynn and Clara finished eating. She loved the book with the mirrors in it and signed “more” each time we finished reading it. Eventually Clara finished her snack and joined us while Wynn kept eating. Clara took a turn sitting in my lap while we read.

As usual we gathered on the deck afterwards and I brought some large crystals and a few books. Wynn and Clara were very interested in holding the crystals, and Wynn often tried to taste them. Eventually Clara decided that she was more interested in my pen and notebook that I use for documenting and loved feeling the paper. She also tried using the pen to scribble on the notebook. The pen was probably the thing she was most interested in on the deck. Wynn was most interested in exploring the class’ water bottles in search of his own.

Lizzie and I were very proud of Olive for successfully climbing up onto the playscape on her own. She slid down the slide and hopped on a bike, then waved hello to everybody. Wynn pulled a bike past her, and Clara walked up to push and pull Olive on her bike. After that she rubbed her hands in the water table and started picking up every tiny object she could find. Olive often found a comfy chair to sit and relax in. We later sang songs and after each one she signed “more.”

After nap Lizzie went into the toddler room to help out in there and the pre-tots and I did some free play, then circle time (I forgot to do it in the morning – I’m still getting into the daily groove!) We sang lots of songs and took care of the calendar duties. Then they painted orange and purple paint on construction paper with sponges. That activity did not last long, which is okay for their age group. Afterwards, Olive caught up on the crystal observations that took place this morning (she really liked the malachite that is now sitting on the diaper shelf in the classroom.) We set the table for snack with some flowers (esperanza, a.k.a. yellow bells I picked on my lunch break) and listened to a fun mix of kid songs on the stereo. Olive was super excited for a few of the songs and danced at the table while she ate. Once the songs were over I lit some incense and read them some books while still seated at the table. All three listened intently. Wynn and Clara both clapped when the books were finished, Wynn jumped around in his seat, and Olive signed “more.” Eventually the table chatter turned into Clara and Olive saying “hi, hi, hi, hi!” What a fun day!
