Summer Activities : Camping (6-24-27)

6/26/2014

This week we focused on activities we enjoy doing during the Summer.  Our focus in the Primary Sunflower room was camping.  We also have some special guests joining us this week; Maya, Ben's older sister, also Maggie and Bennett.  We are very excited to have them in our class this week.

Monday:  This morning during Montessori work time Dom and Lizzie gave presentations on our new works in the classroom.  Miss Arielle worked with the older kiddos on some challenging puzzles.  During small group time Group A was introduced the the letter of the week, Ww.  Group B discussed their personal camping experiences and shared their favorite activities to do while camping.  They also practiced writing their names.  Kinder Blossom was introduced the the digraph "ph".  This afternoon yoga was extra special because the whole class did it together and it was led by Miss Abby!  We all love when she comes to visit.

Tuesday:  Group A painted worlds for the letter Ww.  Group B worked with Montessori math lessons while Kinder Blossom made graphs.  This afternoon the Sunflowers made campfire using red, orange, and yellow construction paper, and red tissue paper.  We discussed what activities we do around campfires while camping.  We came discussed roasting marshmallows, telling stories, singing songs, and cooking.  We also enjoyed yoga with MIss Vanessa.

Wednesday:  We enjoyed as much outside playtime as we could this morning before the rain clouds rolled in.  When it started raining we headed inside to our circle time carpet to enjoy stories read by Miss Liz.  What a special treat!  We then began Montessori work time, which we extended because all our Sunflowers were very focused on their works. We then broke into our small groups for Show and Tell. This afternoon after Secret Sack we brought out our Show and Tells to play with on the carpet.  We then enjoyed roasting marshmallows (cotton balls) on the campfires we made yesterday.

Thursday:  This morning instead of our regular Splash Day we made homemade bubbles!  Miss Toni gave us all a presentation while she mixed many different ingredients together to make bubbles.  We used dish washing liquid, sugar and food coloring for one mixture.  Warm water, laundry soap, white sugar, and glycerin for another, and warm water, dish soap and sugar for our final mixture.  During our morning time outside we made our own bubble wands using pipe cleaners!  All three classes really enjoyed making their own bubble wand!  Our Bubble Party was a huge success!!  This afternoon we made fishing poles using sticks from our backyard with string tied on them.  We will use these tomorrow during Splash Day to fish for objects in our "lakes".  During Spanish with MIss Daphne we each took turns practicing the parts of the face in Spanish by placing them on a face cutout.  All the Sunflowers are really catching on to the names in Spanish!

Friday:  I will be on vacation today.  I will post pictures on Tuesday when I return to Green Sprout.

Much love
Lizzie

Monday: Everyone arrived in great spirits, checking out all the cool new stuff Sophie and her mom donated before her last day at Green Sprout!
Group A discussed the letter L, and words that start with the letter L. Many friends named favorite animals and bugs, LADYBUG, LION, LIZARD :)
Group 2 discussed vacations, and ways of traveling to and from places when on vacation. Many friends brought up AIRPLANES, TRAINS, and CARS.
Kinder Blossom talked about vacations and transportation as well, listing and spelling certain
vehicles that they thought of.
after nap, Group 2 (colette, addie, miya, jasper, wren) joined Ms Liz for yoga before we headed outside to end the day.
TUESDAY:  Olive, Paislie, Addie, and Ivy started the day, reclining in their new "sun chairs", collecting different items to build something with them.

during Montessori hour, Addie found the Pressure Cylinders,
while ivy worked on the Tree Puzzle, one of her favorites.  Miya and Addie decided to work on the transferring water work, focusing on the water to avoid any spills. Teo found the Knobbed Cylinders, while Asher practiced using a push pin, and a picture to try to "cut out".  Olive worked on a new work, which involved magnetic vs. non-magnetic objects, while Joey found the hole puncher work, and made "confetti" using the hole puncher and scraps of paper.

Group A went on a Nature walk, Looking for Leaves, for our Leaf Art! They collected Leaves in buckets, and also Looked for Ladybugs! We then came in to work on our Leaf Art, which the kids enjoyed gluing their Leaves to their paper!
Group 2 checked out their newly decorated corner, filled with pictures and art work by them!

After nap, we had our family meeting/secret sack. Then broke up into centers/art/snack. Ms Arielle drew up 2 different types of cars for my friends to decorate, they colored them, then added glitter and their own little touch, before we tacked them to our map!
We talked about all the different cars that are on the road, and about their windows, doors, and especially the wheels!
WEDNESDAY:
Each group met, and had Show N Tell. Group 1 went around and talked about what they brought, Paislie brought a net, which she said she used to catch butterflies and Ladybugs. Teo and Asher brought a truck and fire engine, while Olive and Ivy picked something from the classroom.
During our outside time, painted different pictures of transportation vehicles, each friend excited about their favorite!
After nap, we worked on our Beach/Ocean Diorama, adding sand and shells. We then joined Ms Daphne for Spanish.
THURSDAY:
Before starting Splash day, we went in for a group snack, and some Montessori work time, Paislie found the number puzzle, while Addie worked on another new lesson, which was organizing items, by Small, Medium, and Large. Asher found the other new lesson, sorting washers and bolts, from smallest to largest, using a magnetic stick, which he focused and enjoyed very much.
We met the other classrooms outside for Splash Day, which everyone loved!

After Nap, Ms Daphne joined us for Spanish, where they practiced on the iPad, putting together a puzzle of a mouth, nose, ears, and eyes.
FRIDAY:  We started outside for Dance Party and Splash day! but before, all my early birdies - Joey, Finn, Miya, Asher, Julia, Teo, and Olive - all helped me open, shovel, and spread mulch around the playground. They all worked together to transport mulch into the wheelbarrows and Teo and Asher made their way to areas to dump the mulch. Great Helpers! :) Splash day was a huge success, and friends figured out different ways to manipulate water!

After nap, as we headed outside, we noticed Mr Nick working on something interesting. He was drilling holes into a piece of wood, then screwing on the corresponding nut or bolt. everyone was in amazement, and watched carefully as Nick drilled.

What a great week!

Monday:  Welcome back everyone! We have two visitors with us this week. Leina and Maya, both Green Sprout graduates, and both older sisters of kiddos in the Sunflower room.  We are all so excited they are spending the week with us!  We had snack outside on the picnic table this morning with the Pre-Tots then headed inside for Montessori work time.  Kinder Blossom and Lizzie's group were given presentations on new Montessori works, therefore extended their work time while Dom's group were introduced to the letter Rr.  This afternoon we enjoyed yoga with Miss Liz, practicing animal poses with partners.

Tuesday:  What a beautiful, cool morning we had today!  We enjoyed a picnic outside once again this morning, taking advantage of the gorgeous weather.  We then headed inside for Montessori work time.  During work time the Sun Flowers were still exploring and receiving presentations on the new Practical Life lessons we made.  We then broke into our groups to begin working on our Father's Day gifts.  All the kiddos were very eager begin making their gifts for Dad.  This afternoon after nap we began an art project.  We colored jellyfish, octopus, and sea horses to put in our ocean scene.  We then enjoyed yoga with Miss Vanessa.

Wednesday:  This morning we cut out Montessori work time short so we could have time for Show and Tell and to finish up our Father;'s Day gifts in our small groups.  This afternoon Major stumped everyone with the item he put in the Secret Sack, even all the teachers!  It was a paint brush! Great job Major!  Before Spanish we began to paint our box that we are going to make into our Ocean scene.  During Spanish we continued to learn new hello and goodbye songs with MIss Daphne. Also continued to learn our body parts in Spanish.

Thursday: This morning  during Splash day we dedicated part of our time to discovering which objects would sink and which objects would float.  After snack the Sunflowers picked objects out around our classroom to take outside for our sink and float activity.  This afternoon we made good bye cards for Sophie and Byron and glued noses, eyes, ears, and hair on paper with MIss Daphne as we sang songs.

Friday:  This is Sophie and Byron's last day at Green Sprout.  Byron requested a black light dance party.  Miss Toni spent the morning with is  and lead the Sunflowers in stretches to get our bodies ready for the black light dance party.  Byron and Sophie both wanted to dance to their favorite, Gongham Style.  During our dance party Miss Toni recorded us for a music video!  We all loved watching ourselves in the video.  We then headed outside for Splash day!  The Sunflowers had the whole backyard to ourselves for awhile.
This afternoon we all gave Sophie and Byron lots of extra love.

Have a great week everyone!

Love, Miss Lizzie

Monday:  No school in honor of Memorial Day

Tuesday:  We started our short week back with a rainy Tuesday.  This morning we worked with Play-Doh as all our friends arrived to school.  We then had group snack and Montessori work time.  Jasper, Ben and Dax focused their time working with shapes with MIss Lizzie, while Asher, Teo and Sophie worked on puzzles with Dom Dom.  We then broke into our small groups. Miss Arielle was out today, Miss Liz was subbing, and there was only 1 Kinder Blossom kiddo here so they combined with Miss Lizzie's group.  We discussed what the meaning of Memorial Day is what activities we did to celebrate. Dom's group brainstormed words beginning with Yy. Miya said she saw fireworks!  This afternoon we decorated rocks as little bugs and leaves to hang in our classroom.  We also enjoyed yoga with MIss Liz.

Wednesday:  We welcomed to sunshine and Miss Arielle back this morning out in the backyard.  After snack and Montessori work time we broke into our small groups for Show and Tell.  Colette's Show and Tell was a story about her being in San Angelo and hearing a tornado siren!  We are all so glad they are safe and sound back in Austin!  This afternoon we did not have Spanish because Miss Daphne is in Mexico for the week.  Dom Dom gathered the Sunflowers on the deck to practice the songs we have learned with Miss Daphne.

Thursday:   We spent the morning outside, enjoying snack with the pre tots and toddlers on the picnic table along with some water coloring,  Kinder Blossom went to the deck to have a Rody party while Lizzie and Dom's group had a scavengtar hunt for objents in the backyard that were yellow.

Friday:  This Friday was picture day.  We started off our day inside so we could stay fresh and clean for our pictures.  Once the Sunflowers had taken all their pictures we headed outside to run around until lunch.  Paige's dad, Skip came to visit us while we were outside.  He put on a puppet show for the kiddos.  All the Sprouts absolutely loved it and couldn't stop laughing.  This afternoon we had a dance party to makeup for not having one this morning.

Have a great week!
