Movement Monday!

Learning All About Today has been a favorite of ours lately during circle time, discussing the weather, days of the week, and the month, day and year it is! Miya replied "August", as Ms Toni pointed to the different words.

Then one  by one they broke off into centers. Dax opted for some self serve snack, while Wren, Teo, Asher, Paislie and Ben went for the Construction Center. Miya made her way to Dramatic Play Center, and soon after Teo cleaned up his construction work to move to the Science Center, where he practiced putting batteries in a flashlight and checking if it turns on or off! We counted 2 minutes, then began our clean up.

It was time to march outside for free play/exploration.

What an amazing first week!

We have had such an amazing first week here in our new classroom.  We explored all our new work stations, learned new Montessori terms and lesson, celebrated Maya and Leina's graduation to Kinder, and had dance parties for Zoe Myers last day at the Sprout.
We started our morning off outside with a dance party and an art activity with all of out friends.  We also had a play date with our new friend Addie who will  be joining our class next week.  She and her mom came to paint with is as we made a collage using paint with all of the classes.
This afternoon per Zoe's request we had a black light dance party in our classroom and made smoothies for her last day.
We are all so excited about this new school year and can't wait to start another great week here in the Shining Stars class!

Have a great weekend! We will see you Monday!

Exploring the Classroom!

What a Thursday! We started off our day on the playground had a lovely presentation by Toni on how our new snack center in the classroom will function for now on. Our friends carried glass plates with two hands around the dome a few times and even balanced pieces of mulch on them, pretending it was their snack. Then we went inside to work and some friends visited the snack center throughout the morning.

We had a picnic for lunch and after nap we celebrated Leina's last day as a sprout, as she is going off to kindergarten on Monday! For her celebration she wanted to have a black light costume dance party, in which the toddlers joined us! We also decorated and signed a rad banner for her.

Wonderful Wednesday in the Primary Room!

Day 2 of our new school year is in the books, and what a pleasant day it was!

Jasper and Miya were exploring the new car outside, and Dax and Ben came to check it out also.

Our morning sensory started with Ms Toni checking on the baby carrots in the garden. She then explained with plenty of water and sun, our fruits and vegetables have grown to be very big! We took them to the picnic table to offer anyone who wanted a taste.

Once the toddlers and pre-tots made their way inside, Toni had all primary friends (except for jette, zoe, and leina) come to the picnic table and turn on their listening ears for todays first presentation of a lesson. She first explained the importance of focus and patience, when carrying a tray. She acted out a scenario that had me play the "guide" and she played the "Sprout", she showed everyone how lessons are on trays, and in order to work on a lesson, first there must be a presentation done by a teacher, showing them how to use the particular material.

secondly, they all found objects to put on their tray and practice carrying around the playground. First they walked slowly along the border, then inched their way onto the border, balancing while holding onto their tray. Some friends move quick, trying to keep up with her, while others stayed behind focusing on their tray and steps.

Lastly, was our inside demonstrations/presentations of lesson and new work centers. We first made our way to the MATH center, where there are various counting and sorting lessons. Next is the WRITING center, with different lessons to practice their writing from lined paper, to construction paper, to dry erase markers to practice with. The CONSTRUCTION center was next, which was most of the boys favorite center, as they got to be as creative as possible creating roads and tracks for their vehicles to drive on.

DRAMATIC PLAY was next, followed by the PRACTICAL LIFE center and SCIENCE center, which seemed to fascinate everyone as they noticed the magnet lesson and weather tellers in the science center.

As we woke up from nap, one by one each friend rolled up their nap mat, and got ready to start their afternoon! Today, we worked on mobiles to hang in our classroom and some to gift to our baby friends!

We went on a nature walk, to find natural materials to hang. They collected leaves, twigs, branches, pine cones, and sunflower leaves (which are huge!) Then we took them to the deck and added them to our other materials we had.

On one table, we set up index cards, glue, glitter, different colored pom-poms and much more. On the other table, friends could paint their natural material.  It was a huge success and the babies were super excited to receive their mobile and thanked all my friends. (the teachers thanked us, not babies :) )  by that time it was time to clean up, and make our way outside.

Greetings Primary Stars Families,

Toni Here! How exciting is it to post the first blog of the new school year! This was such and anticipated day and I am proud to report it exceeded all our hopes!

Welcome back for another great year here at the Sprout. Change and transition is among us and we have dedicated our first week of this school year to introducing the new friends, teachers, routines, materials, and schedule.

Some of the major changes for the Primary Stars included having Dom Dom and Toni as teachers. The Sprouts definitely approved having us move in :) In fact, the group was eager to turn their listening ears on for each of our announcements and directions.
Another was the design and layout of the classroom. We moved the big table outside for an opportunity at outdoor art work and family style picnics. We also moved out the fridge into the teacher break room and now have a wide open work space! This newly created space is where you will find our circle time rug and wall with our calendar and "All About Today" chart. This side of the classroom is where you will also find the vast majority of our Montessori works. We wanted there to be a slight division in the philosophies and which side of the room it is most reflected on. Next week the Primary teachers will be sending out a classroom orientation form explaining the new design of our classroom and the terminology that will go along with our changes. Green Sprout is currently awaiting the delivery of our new Montessori Materials and we are glad to be spending this time preparing for this addition.
It is very important that parents are knowledgeable of the functions behind the design and the terminologies that the children will be using to describe the works they will be engaged with each morning.

Another change in the class is that we have moved little dragon into our welcome center as he now is a highlighted member of our community. Little Dragon in loved by all the classes and it only seemed fair to have him live in a space where all friends could visit him and be a part of his care.

Another change is that we will be having full length standing cubbies installed in the coming next week and so please continue to put your Sprouts belongings in the crates on the floor.

As you all have all ready noticed by now, the Parent's board is now located outside of the classroom where will start having drop offs next week. The Stars and other Primary Co-teachers have been discussing and practicing our soon to be new drop-off routine. Our practice consists of us walking, hands behind back, to the welcome center and all taking a seat to watch each of our friends get a turn acting our "Mommy or Daddy" taking "Sprout" to school. So, two friends would start outside on front porch (most of the class knew the door code to let themselves in) and then would walk with their Sprout who was carrying their nap mat and lunch box through the welcome center and up to our new "drop off area" ( space in front of classroom entrance door where sign in sheets are located) and Sprout will sign in while mom/dad signs in as well. After signing in, good bye hugs and kisses were given and then Sprout walks into classroom independently and without parent. Once inside the classroom, they practiced putting their lunchbox and other belongings away in their cubby and then are free to explore their classroom!  We will remind you guys over the weekend of this drop off change starting this coming Monday.

This was not only a special day because it was the first day of the new school year but was also the day we got to celebrate Leina and Maya as they have graduated from the Sprout and will be starting Kindergarten this month! Yayyy! The ceremony was absolutely precious in that we had the graduation march tune playing the background and had the other classes/teachers sitting at the big table. Each of the girls took their turn walking up the ramp to receive their diploma then waved it over the play scape to their friends sitting below. They then went down the slide where we all waited for them to touch the ground to applaud in celebration!!! The girls then threw their hats in the air! We had a dance party soon after followed by a lunch picnic at the big table!

Post nap, we warmed up for Yoga by playing a game of Freeze Dance! Amelia then joined us for a fun class of yoga! Having yoga in the space where the big table once lived was ever so great in that there was plenty of room for everyone!

We ended our day with some Mr. Nick outdoor play :)

We started off our Thursday with some fun in the sun...and sandbox. Tacos were (pretend) cooked, friends played chase, hugs were give . We had snack inside (Ivy joined us today) and talked about our room, which dramatically changed yesterday. We discussed why it had changed (preparing for the new school year) and also talked about tomorrow being Rhys and Joey's last day at G.S. Then we played in centers and outside before lunch. Jasper did the secret sack during lunch. After nap we talked about the Ww, Xx, Yy, and Zz boxes and played in centers (enjoying them before they change on Monday.)

Spreadin' mulch!

I will try to resolve the photo issue this weekend. Thanks for your patience!

This morning we enjoyed the cool weather by hanging out on the playground with the rest of the community. We had a picnic for snack and afterwards we helped Nick spread out mulch on the playground. We also did some weeding in the garden.

When we came in we checked out the new library books Arielle checked out yesterday evening and read one of them before nap. We also tried some new naptime music (flaminco guitar music) and voted on whether or not to keep using it for now on.

After nap we did centers. It was so hot outside we stayed in al long as we could.

Welcome back, Rhys!

I'm sorry that I am having trouble connecting my phone to the computer tonight (there are no pictures.)

Today we had a full house! Alanna had a playdate, Rhys visited us after a month of vacationing (he will be going to his new school later this month) and Maya was with us in the afternoon. We reviewed the letters Tt, Uu, and Vv during snack and thouroughly enjoyed center time, which involved an emphasis on crystals. While on the playground, lots of food was "served" from the plauhouse. During lunchtime we pretended to be visiting a food trailer park (we're naturally moving on from Bento Cafe!) We talked about how people can order different types of food at food trailer parks, and Ariellr told everybody about her brother's real life food park, East Side Food Park. After nap we did yoga and tried to beat the heat by staying indoors as long as possible.

What a day! Ivy joined us today and thoroughly enjoyed being a shining star! During morning snack Arielle shared some photos of herself when she was young and then we talked about the letter Rr and Ss and explored the boxes, and read My Rr Book. We had a great time during centers and used our new number lines and large tie dye blanket many different ways. We also vrought Bento Cafe to life and used the menus donated by families to pretend we were ordering food.

During outside time we did yoga with Arielle, the pre-tots, and the toddlers!  It was nice to stretch our bodies out on the playground.

During lunch we reflected on our past experiences of the restaurant unit by looking at and talking about the restaurant unit documentation board. Then we discussed where our food comes from.

After nap we  water colored, played in centers (it was too hot to do splash day) and celebrated Tristan's fourth birthday. Amazing Thursday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TRISTAN!
