The school seemed deserted walking into the primary room and finding no one. Searching the whole school it seemed that Thursday started off for everyone in the pre-tot room. Leina and Colette played with the pre-tots rocking horse and made up an imaginary world with all the different animals around the room. We stayed here until our snack time began just after nine. Once back in our room Caden and Paige joins us. It was a very long snack, after some of the emotions of getting dropped off had settled down all of our friends were quite content chatting with each other and some of them competing for Caden's attention. Our friends finished snack one by one, and went over to nick to work on an ornament to give their parents for the holidays. Once they finished their ornaments they were free to explore some of the new things around the room. Caden was excited to see how the room had changed since he left in October. Paige and Caden hung out on the couch for awhile catching up while Jasper and Rhys quickly adopted the toy Caden had just abandoned. With their energy in the class room increasing we took them outside to explore the backyard before lunch. It was windy once we got out there but it did not seem to bother any of our friends. With some energy expended, it was time for lunch. We had a quite start to lunch because everyone was too busy eating to talk. With half of our lunch time expired, the conversation around the table began. All the girls wanted to switch seats and sit next to Caden and show him their new water bottles ( even though they weren't new).
Lizzie read a story after lunch and then we all laid down for nap. After waking up from nap Paige has a surprise for everyone, she had brought a loaf of bread from wheatsville and shared it with everyone for snack. With some hummus and bread in our tummies we came to the big carpet to play a game. Our game was to move from one mat to another as a specific animal. We hopped like kangaroos, crawled like bears, and even swam like fish to different mats. After a few games to spark their imagination, it was time for Spanish. Leona let the class in a welcome song, then they played a game of bingo. She had them captivated with Spanish for thirty minutes then it was time to go outside for our pick up time.
It was a much busier day at the sprout than a normal Tuesday. We had Maya and Joey drop in and Rhys started full time today, so we had a larger class than normal. After our morning snack Lizzie lead an art project where we used shaving cream with food coloring as paint. A lot of glitter was added to finish off their master pieces. Following our art project we went out to the deck and practice wrapping a very large present for Greensprout. Everyone helped wrap the box our new sensory table came in. We capped it off with some bows for style points and had a quick circle time after it was finished. We ran off some energy outside after our class's circle time and played a lot of baseball. We had a good lunch then nap time. It took a little longer for everyone to fall asleep than normal but everyone except two friends were down by one.
Upon waking, we told everyone we were going to get little dragon out after snack. Everyone was very excited to see him out, so we finished snack quickly and sat down on the big carpet while nick and Lizzie held little dragon for all our friends to see. They commented on him licking the air and learned that's how he smells. After an exciting time with our reptile friend we used the remaining time for free art and counting games. Joey and Rhys enjoyed the candy cane counting and adding game the most. After cleaning up our art table it was time to go outside for pick up.
Fridays always have a very laid back feel to them. We started with some music in the back yard as always. Yo gaba gaba was the first to be played and most of the toddlers danced by the stairs where the CD player is. On the other side of the playground Maya was busy making blueberry pumpkin smoothies. She recruited Paige to help find pumpkins around the back yard. After helping Maya, she decided to water the grass with some sand. Dax played some tag with Leina and Paige which turned into a giant group hug. We went inside for snack, Tristan declined to have any cantaloupe but sat with his friends and chatted anyway. After snack Lizzie took half the class and made "stained glass" stars of David. They coloured those stars then rubbed them with oil to make them see through. Nick took the other half and made snow men. Some came out very abstract and other as a typical snowman but of varying colours. Paige went the abstract route and jumbled all the parts up which could have been frosty the snow man after he melted. After our art project we went outside for a dance party and numerous games of tag.
After lunch Toni came in and lead a food project. We put grapes on cinnamon tooth picks and made snowmen with them. Then Toni showed everyone how to make snow to put on our grape snowmen. For the snow, everyone got a bag of coconut flakes and two drops of blue food colouring to shake making the coconut a light blue. To make it stick to the grapes everyone got a scoop of yogurt to roll the grapes in then sprinkled the coconut on the grapes. Everyone had a lot of fun making the snowmen and out the left overs in their lunch boxes to take home. After our food project we went to the deck to check out our new sensory table. It was a big hit with Tristan, Dax, and Rhys. After hanging out on the deck for a bit we headed to the back yard for outside pick up and the end of a great week.
Wednesday started off inside again due to the cold. We started snack and slowly all of our friends arrived. Kinderblossom started right after snack, so Leina, Maya, and Zoey all headed out with Ariel. The weather had warmed up so we skipped our inside activities and went outside for the first time today. Everyone was in great spirits and full of energy outside. The girls made a "yucky" cake for everyone and Dax decided to make a chocolate cake for everyone. Paige and Colette got cold so they asked to borrow nicks jacket so the two of them walked around in it and it looked like the jacket was walking by itself because no legs or arms were visible.
Lunch was a lot of fun. Toni popped in for a bit to chit chat with all of our sproutlets. All the kids loves when Toni stays to talk for a while because she brings a great caffeinated energy to the class room. Transition from lunch to story time was very quick today, and everyone was ready for a nap. Everyone woke up from nap and promptly sat down for our afternoon snack without almost any prompts or instructions. We had a very nice snack time and played a few games at the table to get everyone's mind ready for Spanish. After we cleaned up our area we met on the big carpet for Spanish. Leona brought her daughter Alma to sing with us during Spanish class. Among their favorite is the wake up song in which they get to use bells to wake their friends up with one by one. Another song they enjoy is one where they get drum sticks to use, everyone does really well when they sing and have something to hold. Due to a string of potty related matters we did not have time for our art project and being 4 o'clock we headed outside. Many of the kids were energized from their long naps and so wanted to play non stop. Tristan and Dax were together most of the time outside. Zoey came up with the idea to find bugs and recruited nick to help. Tristan and Dax joins them once they found what looked to be a yellow lady bug. After a few minutes their interest in Henry the bug faded and he was spared a life of captivity to rejoin his habitats in the trees. It was a good end to the day at Greensprout.
Monday started off with a bunch of emotions. Even though everyone had winter clothe, not many of our friends seemed to enjoy being outside this morning. With a unanimous consensus, everyone was inside before nine o'clock. Our friends occupied their time with making beaded necklaces or "reading" books on the couch during our normal drop off time. Maya and Tristan worked on making necklaces and even showed other friends like Miya how to make them.
We had a long snack because no one seemed to get full today, so we had a few extra rounds of fruit and cereal. We started to get ready for show and tell but everyone seemed to have a little too much energy to sit down for too long so we tried going outside again. Everyone was much happier to be outside this time around and played tag nonstop until we had to go in for some class work and show and tell. We drew pictures of what winter meant to us and then had time for half of our class to do show and tell. Maya brought a really neat book of her and her family with pictures from a vacation they took. Tristan showed everyone a cowboy riding a horse just like the movie toy story, but he declined to pass it around. Leina joined our class in the middle of show and tell and we even had a special guest, Leina's mom, sit down with us for a bit. We only got to half the class before lunch time came, so we promised everyone they would get a turn after nap. Everyone was very tired and was out almost as soon as the lights went out. After a healthy snack of mixed veggies we finished show and tell then did some dramatic play, something we haven't done in class for quite a while. There were a few friends who still wanted to do art like maya, who felt like making jellyfish today. Everyone else played in our practical life area, Rhys was captivated by the different coins in the money box and his favorites were the pennies and pents, which had the lest value but did not seem to matter for Rhys. With the weather a bit warmer we bundled up and went outside for outdoor exploration. Once outside all the children could release the energy they had to bottle up for most of the day. We played some running games like red light green light and even a little soccer. |
