Wednesday was another cold and rainy day. So we spent our time inside. Ben from the toddler class got bumped up to our class for the day, having his sister Maya was a great help to him in this new environment. Our room was open to explore while we waited on all of our friends to arrive. Once most of the class had gotten to school safely we began snack. Our younger friends have more trouble with coordination so allowing them to serve themselves with a spoon from the snack tray helps with learning fine motor movements, because they will take as much time as they need to get as many if not more pieces of fruit as their neighbor just got.
After snack everyone washed their hands and grabbed a smock for our art project. Lizzie led the class in making family trees. We used brown paint for the trees and glued straws coming off the tree for each member of the family, pets included. Colette consolidated all her cousins into one branch and Paige used a branch for each of her two cats. As soon as someone finished their project they could play freely in the class room. Maya was one of the first to finish and headed straight for the fisher price garage. Dax and Joey wanted to make some additions to the garage and used the tools to make it bigger and better. Colette couldn't get enough art so she worked alone at the small art table and worked on making a multi layered picture. Leina and Paige were in an imaginary world on the big carpet and didn't need any toys to have a good time. Nick read a story to Miya, Dax, Maya and Rhys on the couch while Lizzie worked with other friends in the math/practical life center. 11:15 came by and it was time for lunch. We washed our hands and headed to the big table. We cleaned up our area quickly and listened to a story Lizzie read then it was nap time. After waking up we had a special visitor. Toni dropped in and introduced everyone to a new baby from the infant room. After snack we played a few games where we explored the school, with the final destination being Toni's office. Everyone wanted to read a story right before Spanish class so we read a quick one until miss Leona came in. Spanish class was great, everyone was very enthusiastic about singing and dancing especially jasper and Joey, they seem to feed off of each others energy when doing an activity. They were very happy to dance around and sing every song. After Spanish we normally go outside, however the weather restricted our outdoor activities so we let the kids decide if they wanted to go on the deck or stay inside. We brought over some dramatic play items from the toddler room which everyone loves. Tristan had multiple wardrobe changes during the last part of the day because of all the costumes there were to choose from. Centers were also open along with some crawling tunnels. Maya used an entire basket of dramatic play costumes and without asking had put everything back in better order than she found it. We were very amazed to see everywhere she went to be cleaner than when she found it. We had a good time inside even with weather restrictions.
