Caden's last day (10/12/12)

It is Caden's last day before he starts at a new school. It's sad when one of our friends leaves us, but we spent the whole day celebrating our last day with him.
Following drop off we came inside for snack and began discussing what he wanted to do on his last day. Pizza was the first thing he said, which was in reference to our afternoon cooking project. But in the meantime he said he wanted to play some of his favorite games, so after snack we went outside and played "red light green light". After a few games most kids just wanted to watch, but Tristan, Leina, and Caden were in fierce competition. No matter who really won a round everyone always yelled "I won" and there were never any hard feelings.
Once the excitement died down over the game we brought a little Yamaha drum machine outside. Caden and Leina fell in love with it immediately. They took turns for the next 15 minutes completely absorbed in giving a drum show.
Once it was time to go in Caden's next request was to work on stations in the classroom. Tristan, Miya, and Dax worked on fort construction while Caden made up shapes on the floor using blocks then destroying it to create something new. Maya, Paige, and Leina started in the art center with Leina showing them how to make unicorns, something she has been working on for over a week. Surprisingly this took up most of our morning time and it was soon lunch time. Caden brought Popsicles which were wanted durning lunch, a little negotiation allowed for them to be eaten after nap time. So in keeping with the deal, following nap Caden handed out Popsicles to all his friends and even to the teachers. Popsicles automatically come with child protected wrappers so unable to open them, we systematically assisted all of our friends with their treats. While everyone was quite happy with their frozen goods, nick explained about the way we were going to make pizzas. We had made them before with English muffins, natural cheese and organic tomato and basil sauce, which is exactly what Caden wanted to to again. Everyone got a bowl, sauce, cheese, and English muffin except our lactose intolerant friends, and built our pizzas while Nick tended to oven duty. There were a few with only cheese and one with only sauce, and Rhys's didn't even make it to the oven before it was consumed. Everyone was happy with their pies and one by one left the table to go back to their favorite station. We had an art project planned for Caden but he was adamant about not doing art, so we had a dance parties to break up the station time. The drum machine was brought back inside and the demo feature allowed everyone to pretend they were making the music we dances to. 4 O'clock came and we headed outside to play with Caden before he headed off to his new school
