Celebrating Old Teachers and New Friends!

What a wonderful way to end the week for all of us! On Friday, Cassandra and Liz were back in their favorite classroom exploring, creating, playing, discussing and laughing with all of your brilliant children! It was such a treat to be able to guide new and old students in the Primary Room. It is always so surprising to see how much each child has developed and grown in such a short period of time.

To begin the day, we all played outside in the beautiful (not-too-hot) sun so that we had plenty of time to catch up and hear about every family’s summer. After cleaning up and enjoying a delicious snack of grapes and oranges, Archer shared with us a special treat. It was Archer’s and Zoe’s last day at Green Sprout so Archer brought homemade blueberry muffins to share with his friends. As evidenced by the blueberry smudges all over every kid’s face, we all enjoyed them very much!

During circle time we talked about what we all ate for breakfast, read a couple of stories, and sang a few of our favorite songs. After each spending some time in Costa Rica, Liz and Cassandra both brought back special treasures for each of the kids. Cassandra brought back colones, Costa Rican currency, for each child to take home and Liz brought back seashells she collected from the beaches of Monetezuma.

After circle time, the students participated in self-guided learning and explored the different work centers of the classroom. Paige, Zoe, and Miya spent the majority of their time drawing with colorful markers in the art center. Archer and Dax bonded over Transformers and used the wooden blocks to build spacecrafts for them.  Tristan found a roll of measuring tape and was determined to measure everything and anything he could find in the classroom, including every limb of Liz’s body which were all announced as “Too big!”

Rhys, Colette, and Mo had the most fun painting and carefully sprinkling glitter onto coffee filters we found and thought would make great recycled art. Maya and Maggie had a ball exploring the science station and wore protective goggles for the majority of the designated station period. We all had so much fun learning in these small groups and it was great for Liz and Cass to see the kids confidently working in their new classroom design.

After our work time, we all gathered our lunches for a picnic lunch out in the backyard, followed by some outdoor play before heading inside for nap. After a very successful nap for all of our little sleepers, we gathered at the big table for pizza-making! Using English muffins, cheese, spinach, and jam (for the adventurous eaters) we created individual pizzas that were gobbled down in a flash!
