Food Project Friday 12/14/12

Fridays always have a very laid back feel to them. We started with some music in the back yard as always. Yo gaba gaba was the first to be played and most of the toddlers danced by the stairs where the CD player is. On the other side of the playground Maya was busy making blueberry pumpkin smoothies. She recruited Paige to help find pumpkins around the back yard. After helping Maya, she decided to water the grass with some sand. Dax played some tag with Leina and Paige which turned into a giant group hug. We went inside for snack, Tristan declined to have any cantaloupe but sat with his friends and chatted anyway. After snack Lizzie took half the class and made "stained glass" stars of David. They coloured those stars then rubbed them with oil to make them see through. Nick took the other half and made snow men. Some came out very abstract and other as a typical snowman but of varying colours. Paige went the abstract route and jumbled all the parts up which could have been frosty the snow man after he melted. After our art project we went outside for a dance party and numerous games of tag.
After lunch Toni came in and lead a food project. We put grapes on cinnamon tooth picks and made snowmen with them. Then Toni showed everyone how to make snow to put on our grape snowmen. For the snow, everyone got a bag of coconut flakes and two drops of blue food colouring to shake making the coconut a light blue. To make it stick to the grapes everyone got a scoop of yogurt to roll the grapes in then sprinkled the coconut on the grapes. Everyone had a lot of fun making the snowmen and out the left overs in their lunch boxes to take home. After our food project we went to the deck to check out our new sensory table. It was a big hit with Tristan, Dax, and Rhys. After hanging out on the deck for a bit we headed to the back yard for outside pick up and the end of a great week.
