Globally Awesome!

Saying that today was wonderful is a total understatement!  We started our day off outside playing Simon Says with Miss Lizzie.  We then gathered on the blanket so she could read a book to all the kiddos. We read a book by Dr. Suess! Everyone’s favorite!!  Once Nick arrived we headed inside for snack.  The Shining Stars were super excited to have him back in our classroom! Once we all finished snack we gathered at the carpet for circle time.  Miss Lizzie brought in a globe so we could discuss the places in the world that stay cold all year round.  Colette immediately remembered our conversation from yesterday and told the others that we call these places the Arctic! We did a demonstration with our lamp to show why these places stay cold.  We shined the light on the globe and spun it around to act as if it was the sun; the kiddos really grasped the concept that the sun is what keeps us warm.  During circle time we also discussed what holiday is coming up very quickly, Hanukkah!  Maya told us the exact day it starts, which is December 8 and that it last for eight days.  We will be discussing more about Hanukkah next week.

Today for our art project we made a Menorah!   We painted each kiddos forearm to act as the candle stick, and then we used glitter for the flame!  During this time Maya, Leina and Zoey went to Kinder Blossom and Rhys went outside to help Nick with the Pre-Tots, so they finished it up this afternoon.

The group that was inside with Miss Lizzie doing the art project then went to centers when we completed our part of the Menorah.  Tristan and Dax headed straight to the construction center where Dax built a plane and said he had to repair it.  He used a screwdriver and a saw to fix his airplane.  Tristan made a mountain for his dinosaur to climb on.  Paige, Colette and Miya went to the art center.  Miya wanted to paint while Colette and Paige drew with markers and crayons.  Colette saw Miss Lizzie hanging out Winter Collages that we made yesterday on the wall and decided she wanted to make another one! Dax and Tristan did a great job organizing the block center!  They looked and the pictures of the shapes of the blocks and placed each block in its home!  All the kiddos cleaned up and we came to the library to have Miss Lizzie read some stories.  Once we finished the second story it was time to go outside, on our way out we saw Zoey, Maya, and Leina, they joined us in our line and we marched outside to enjoy this beautiful weather!

After nap and snack the group who didn’t get a chance to partake in our art project this morning put on their smocks and we completed our Menorah!  The kiddos who had already made a piece of the Menorah went on the deck with Nick until it was time for Spanish. Mrs. Leona was very excited about Spanish today as were the Shining Stars! We sang songs and kept the beat with sticks Mrs. Leona handed out to the class.  We sang our favorite song; the “Sleeping Song”.  Once we were done singing we went through the alphabet to make the sounds of each letter.  Everyone had such a great day in Spanish today!

Have a great night!

Love, Lizzie and Nick
