Introducing....France!

What a cold day here in Austin! We started our morning off inside due to the weather.  Joey, Colette, Jasper, Leina and Asher enjoyed sculpting with play-doh while we waited for more friends to arrive.  Once more of our friends arrived we sat down for snack. After we washed our bowls we headed to the carpet for circle time.

During circle time we began our discussion about France.  This week we will be continuing our unit of ‘Global Awareness’, and will be focusing on France and South America.  Miss Lizzie brought in 2 books to enlighten the kiddos about France; the first book was an almanac, the second book was a book about monuments around the world.  We located France on the globe we have in our classroom then in the almanac we took a closer look at France and where it is located.  While looking for France on the globe we discussed that in order to get to France we would have to cross an ocean and maybe even take two airplanes to get there.   We then narrowed our focus on the Eiffel Tower.  Miss Lizzie informed the Shining Stars that the Eiffel Tower in located in a city called Paris. She also read many interesting facts about the Eiffel Tower.  The kiddos loved to know that the Eiffel Tower was originally built to the arch entrance to the world’s fair in 1889!

Once we read all the amazing facts about the Eiffel Tower we headed to the table to paint pieces to make our very own Eiffel Tower for our classroom!  We used grey paint and each kiddo painted their own piece to the structure.  While we were painting we listen to some French music.  The Shining Stars really enjoyed listening to music being sung in a different language!

This afternoon we had yoga again.  We were all very excited to move and stretch our bodies.  Miss Abby led us in the Butterfly Song as we warmed up our bodies. We then read a book about animals we would see if we went on a Safari and acted as if we were those animals.

We said thank you and good bye to Miss Abby, then chose what center we wanted to play in.  While everyone was at centers we brought out some more paint and collectively painted a French flag to hang in our classroom.

Have a great night, and stay warm!

Lots of love, Lizzie and Nick
