Mucho Construction Monday!

Happy Monday Friends! Our morning started off oh so breezy and easy as the majority of our friends were dropped off before 9! Today is the first day of school for a handful of our summer time friends who came to visit our class temporarily and so class is back to its original crew of : Paige, Caden, Leina, Mo, Miya, Collette, Rhys, Dax, Zoey, Maya, & Tristan!

We started off with a great line count off to get us ready to transition inside. The quickness of our counts are getting faster and more accurate. The kids are really proud of this skill. We came inside and gathered around the table for pineapple and apricots! During morning snack we had a visit from Zoe's dad and new puppy, Zelda. Friends are always excited to give a pet and hello to Zelda. We then each went around the table sharing a story or memory from our weekend. Sprouts are always very eager to share thoughts and memories with their friends and they have gotten into the routine of sharing these things around morning snack! The group was very excited about "working" in their classroom and so we met for a quick circle time where we sang our favorite welcome songs and rocked out a quick dance party. Friends then went straight to their favorite materials. There was a huge interest in building a home for the 2 owls that were brought from the school office into our construction area. Friends thought it would be a good idea to build a tree that had branches for our owls to rest and sleep on. Friends chose a variety of materials like tiles, magnets, leaves, pine cones, and wooden blocks.

The large carpet was turned into a car and truck track where kiddos used track pieces to build their "town."They also used carpet squares to build a "big road" for the "big bus" to fit on.  It was one of those mornings when the group lets out a huge "awwwwwwwwwww" once I announce our last 'time check" as we always then prepare for clean up. They were all so into their creations and work that they did not want to stop!
       * The class is very interested in telling and knowing time on the clock and so Nick and I have been having time checks where we give them specific amounts of time before we will move on to our next part of our day. We will say "When the big stick (as they seemed puzzled when I first called it a hand) get to the 9 we will start cleaning up and get ready to go outside."  I will constantly see kids run up to clock to do their own "time check" while in the middle of indoor exploration!

We then used a bit of our outdoor time to explore more in our classroom! Friends then enjoyed a few games of chase and mommy outside then it was back in for lunch. The class has been given the option lately to have lunch either on the deck (picnic style) or on the big table inside. They absolutely love having this option!

After nap we enjoyed a nice story telling by Mike and then had fun working on some art on the big table!
