Puppet show Tuesday

9/13/2012

Tuesday

Coming in from outside drop off we talked about emotions and how other people's actions make us feel during snack time. This helped segue into our art project. We made sock puppets all with different emotions. Lizzie and nick maned the hot glue guns and our friends told us where they wanted the glue. With the exception of a few glitter mishaps the puppets turned out awesome.
Once everyone had finished their puppets we had a puppet show on the couch which had to deal with what emotion someone would have in different situations, such as if one of our puppets stole a friends toy; how the puppet would react in that situation. Since it was a puppet show and no real toy was stolen it made for some very diverse responses. Having been such a great success we took our show out on the deck so the toddlers could see our show.
This signaled the end of our art activity so we headed outside to the playground to release a little energy.
After a few
Games of hide and seek and transformers it was lunch time. During lunch everyone was on very polite behavior, talking was  very calm, and please and thank you were used in almost every sentence when asking for help.
Story time before nap was a little different than normal. Nick read Augustus and his Smile, but instead of just reading it he replaced Augustus with different friends names and that person got to act out what Augustus was doing on that page. Once we read the story 3 different times so that everyone could act something out we where ready for nap time.
Once everyone was up and fed we tried the milk/food colouring experiment again, but nick tested it before hand this time. He first demonstrated it to the class then have all his friends their own bowl full of milk and let them put in the food colouring. Once everyone had their bowls set up they took the Q-tip and dipped it in dishwashing soap and watched the milk and food colour dance around in their bowls.
With another successful experiment under our belts Lizzie took a few friends at a time to hang up the outlines we worked on earlier in the hallway. Our friends worked very hard for two days on these outlines and finally got to display them to the whole school. Once our friends finished hanging their pictures up they came back to the classroom to work independently. Our older kids like Leina and Caden did some pencil work tracing letters and finding letters in a picture word search. Our other friends like Zoey, Paige and Colette used our envelopes to make cards to mom. Colette discovered you can make necklaces out of our magnets and all the girls quickly followed suit. We had a small class today so Lizzie and nick were able to do a lot more one on one teaching with spelling and numbers today. The magnetic letters in the library got a lot of use this afternoon. We had a great day overall
