Summer Activities : Camping (6-24-27)

This week we focused on activities we enjoy doing during the Summer.  Our focus in the Primary Sunflower room was camping.  We also have some special guests joining us this week; Maya, Ben's older sister, also Maggie and Bennett.  We are very excited to have them in our class this week.

Monday:  This morning during Montessori work time Dom and Lizzie gave presentations on our new works in the classroom.  Miss Arielle worked with the older kiddos on some challenging puzzles.  During small group time Group A was introduced the the letter of the week, Ww.  Group B discussed their personal camping experiences and shared their favorite activities to do while camping.  They also practiced writing their names.  Kinder Blossom was introduced the the digraph "ph".  This afternoon yoga was extra special because the whole class did it together and it was led by Miss Abby!  We all love when she comes to visit.

Tuesday:  Group A painted worlds for the letter Ww.  Group B worked with Montessori math lessons while Kinder Blossom made graphs.  This afternoon the Sunflowers made campfire using red, orange, and yellow construction paper, and red tissue paper.  We discussed what activities we do around campfires while camping.  We came discussed roasting marshmallows, telling stories, singing songs, and cooking.  We also enjoyed yoga with MIss Vanessa.

Wednesday:  We enjoyed as much outside playtime as we could this morning before the rain clouds rolled in.  When it started raining we headed inside to our circle time carpet to enjoy stories read by Miss Liz.  What a special treat!  We then began Montessori work time, which we extended because all our Sunflowers were very focused on their works. We then broke into our small groups for Show and Tell. This afternoon after Secret Sack we brought out our Show and Tells to play with on the carpet.  We then enjoyed roasting marshmallows (cotton balls) on the campfires we made yesterday.

Thursday:  This morning instead of our regular Splash Day we made homemade bubbles!  Miss Toni gave us all a presentation while she mixed many different ingredients together to make bubbles.  We used dish washing liquid, sugar and food coloring for one mixture.  Warm water, laundry soap, white sugar, and glycerin for another, and warm water, dish soap and sugar for our final mixture.  During our morning time outside we made our own bubble wands using pipe cleaners!  All three classes really enjoyed making their own bubble wand!  Our Bubble Party was a huge success!!  This afternoon we made fishing poles using sticks from our backyard with string tied on them.  We will use these tomorrow during Splash Day to fish for objects in our "lakes".  During Spanish with MIss Daphne we each took turns practicing the parts of the face in Spanish by placing them on a face cutout.  All the Sunflowers are really catching on to the names in Spanish!

Friday:  I will be on vacation today.  I will post pictures on Tuesday when I return to Green Sprout.

Much love
Lizzie
