Thursday the 20th

Thursday, our friends were in for a surprise. Following watermelon for snack, our circle time consisted of talking about new materials and exploration centers in our classroom. Among new things we have incorporated are reading the hands on a clock for our daily activities, a thermometer and talking about the temperature every day.  After circle time we went on a tour of the room starting  in the library and walked throughout the room as a class exploring new activities and how we take care of each center. We talked about how every thing has a home and there is a way to care for Greensprout things. After our tour of the class room, our friends were eager to explore some new work. Leina, Paige and Colette immediately flocked to the writing center were nick went over letter strokes with colette and Paige, and word composition with Leina. We spelled rhyming words like hat, cat, bat, ect. Maya and Caden worked mostly in the construction station making fences and houses with a new set of blocks. The water bottle lava lamps were very popular today, they are filled with mineral oil, water  and food colouring which makes a cool effect when you shake it. With a timer of 5 minutes to clean up and checking where the big hand was  every minute, we actually took 6 minutes and headed outside. With a little energy worked off we had a rather calm lunch with our friends focused on their lunch and quickly  transitioned to story time. After resting their bodies, our friends who can't sleep joined nick at the big table and worked on activities that they felt challenged them. Caden and Leina worked on an activity that helps to strengthen dexterity and coordination. It included tying a bow, snapping buttons, clasping a belt and other types of fasteners. With an hour till our friends wake up Caden continued with the previous activity while Leina wanted to write numbers and practice writing words, her favorite word to spell today was Bumble Bee.
After everyone was awake and finished snack we had show and tell. Colette brought a book Lizzie read for everyone. Alma brought a princess phone that seemed to steal the show. It flipped out and made real phone sounds.
With show and tell wrapping up Spanish class started at 3:30. One of the kids favorite songs is the wake up song, everyone gets a bell and sings to a sleeping friend in Spanish, and when they tell them to wake up, they ring their bell. The class did very well singing all the songs they have heard before, so a new song was introduced. It went over pretty well and was a good finale to class. The end of Spanish  marked the beginning of out door time, so with potty reminders we put our shoes on and headed outside.
