Winter Wonderland!

Hola parents! We certainly hope everyone has had as great of a week as we have so far here in the Shining Star room!  This morning we started our day playing with the new steering wheels Dom Dom put up yesterday on the playscape.  Miss Lizzie, Leina, Asher, Theo and Jasper acted as if we were driving to the grocery store to gather materials for a holiday party.   When Nick arrived we headed inside for snack.  The kiddos certainly enjoyed peeling their own oranges today.  Mr. Nick is in the process of teaching the kiddos how to peel the oranges into a shape of an elephant’s face!  HOW COOL!

We finished up snack and headed over to the carpet for Show and Tell.  Leina showed up her My Little Ponies, today she had “Twilight Sparkle”, “Rarity”, and “Rainbow Dash”.  She informed us that we can tell they all live together because all three of the ponies have a special mark on the bottom of their feet.  Colette brought in a book from home with many different fairy tale stories.  She told us the book was very special to her and she loved reading the book with her mom.  Paige brought in two special coins she is keeping safe.  She told us the coins had special powers and could disappear in her pockets.  Once we all had a chance to share and pass around our objects we decided we wanted to read a fairy tale from Colette’s book.  We all got cozy on the couch and listened while Miss Lizzie read us the story of Thumbelina.  Leina absolutely loved that her name was in the title of the story!

After our story Mr. Nick had a special project for us to do!  We made our own Winter Wonderland! We put shaving cream on the table and using our fingers drew things that reminded us of winter!  Colette and Paige and Leina all drew snowmen.  Colette dressed hers in a striped shirt and scarf.  Mr. Nick demonstrated how to draw a Menorah, Leina really paid attention and made her very own!  Paige loved making it snow by patting her hands together and watching the shaving cream become little snowflakes that fell on the ground.

Once we all washed up and cleaned the table, we took the time for independent exploration in our classroom.  Leina went straight for the shape puzzle; Colette took the time to put many beads on a shoelace to make a necklace, while Paige played with the felt board.

As Miss Lizzie started to sing the clean-up song, all our friends knew this meant to clean their areas, put on their shoes and socks and head outside for playtime before lunch.   While outside Leina and Paige came up with a great game, they gathered sand in buckets, out another bucket at the bottom of the slide and transferred their sand from one container to another.  Colette was busy making pies and cakes for everyone to eat while we rode our spaceship to Saturn!

This afternoon the ladies of the Shining Stars room helped make snowflakes for our Welcome Center!  As we were making the snowflakes we discussed that every single snowflake is different, and that makes them extra special.  We also painted pictures of what we thought of when we thought about winter.  All four of the girls painted snowmen, then Paige and Colette also painted a snow storm!

Mrs. Leona and Alma arrived for Spanish class, just as we were finishing cleaning up!  What perfect timing!! We sang all of our favorite songs while jumping, twisting, laughing, and spinning!  What great exercise for our bodies! After we sang all of our songs Mrs. Leona read us a story in Spanish about a little girl in Kindergarten and her school! What a great way to end our day!  We said gracias and adios to Mrs. Leona and Alma and headed outside to continue the fun!
