Summer Fun

Monday was great! We started out watering our beautiful potted plants outside! We got busy inside creating “fireworks”—memories of which were fresh on most of our minds.  We used pink paper, star stickers, and watercolors.  We had circle time and then Montessori work time. In line with our theme of “physics” we investigated magnets! We talked about how they “attract” and “repel” and we’re also able to do fun tricks with them! Like moving magnets even though you can’t the magnet that’s controlling it! During Yoga, we done fun partner poses! Like the “Lizard and Rock.” We practiced listening to each other, being gentle, and having fun using teamwork with a partner! Tuesday was also great! We had our usual morning, and had fun with Ms. Vanessa during yoga!

Wednesday was Show and Tell! Every one showed off something cool! Malik  showed us how to complete a challenging puzzle, Ronav showed off original artwork, and friends demonstrated the use of awesome construction and garbage dumping trucks, using dinosaurs, caring for babies, and reading cool books! We did lots of magnet play during Montessori work time, and then created “magnetic monsters”—super fun and easy! We used strips of magnets, cut them into wacky shapes, each kid got to choose which shape they liked, put googly-eyes on themselves, and chose which glitter colors to use, and sprinkled themselves.

Thursday was an awesome Splash morning!  We poured, mixed, splashed, “showered,” watered plants, cooked soup, went fishing, and more! In the afternoon we had an impromptu lesson on continents, and then played the rainbow game! The afternoon was great! I was sick on Thursday!

Parents,

It’s been so much fun capturing so many of these moments on camera, and I know there are SO MANY pictures up here that sometimes it’s a hassle to wait for all of them to load. I often have trouble with the Weebly website and didn’t have a chance to post all the pictures that I have from the past couple of weeks. I plan on putting these pictures on a small drive and passing it to the class so that you guys can take the drive home and get copies of the pictures if you want them! Love you guys. Please don’t hesitate to add me on Facebook if you want to stay in touch!

LOVE,

Jackie

The beginning of the week started off super awesome outside! We still had some fishing rods to use, and noticed some new beans growing in the garden! We talked about the United States, sang the Star Spangled Banner and each got to explore a mini US flag! We busted out the World Map and pointed out where the United States, our home, is. We explored “physics”  outside using a wrecking ball with some blocks. We tried out mulch vs. sand, and found out that the heavier sand was more effective in knocking down the blocks! Yoga with Ms. Heather and Ms. Vanessa was awesome, as usual. Nick visited our room on Wednesday morning and helped us make shadow puppets with his cool flash light. Show and tell was a hug hit—we demonstrated how certain trucks work, read quickly through a book, watched little dolphins dance. In the afternoon, Arielle presented us with some great organic/vegan ingredients to make patriotic cookies. We spread sunbutter on the cookies, and decorated them with sprinkles, raisins, and a fruit gummy. We stuck a small flag at the end to bring it all together. Thursday morning was a blast—we made a sand castle village using molds for castles, turtles, and frogs. We found a grasshopper and gave him a temporary home. We got to talk about his different body parts, compare him to a pretend grasshopper we know well, and ultimately set him free. We went out to splash, but spent most of our time blowing red white and blue bubbles, waving a flag around, having dance party, and getting our faces painted!

We had an excellent Monday! We had our usual time outside. We came in and had our usual circle time. We did lots of counting, talking about vacation and our Toddler vacation board, which we’ve been adding pictures to! We celebrated Ancel’s birthday throughout the day—Colette, his sister, came to visit us during this time! In the afternoon, Ms. Abbey came with our new Yoga teacher, Ms. Heather, who will be visiting us sometimes!

Tuesday, We extended our outside time in order to have a fun bowling time! This tied into our “vacation activities,”—things we can do together to have fun. We each had a turn, and each used our own special strategy to knock down the bowling pins! Rolling, kicking, and throwing were a part of the variety we saw. Each time we knocked down the pins, we practiced cheering on our friends, giving out high fives, and basically just had a fun, fun time together. Yoga with Ms. Vanessa was awesome, of course. We went to outer space, jumped on the moon, and came back again and again for one of our Yoga songs. We became yoga rockets, and at the end, breathed together using our breathing ball.

Wednesday morning started off super great outside. On the way in, we noticed the rain clouds were coming our way, so we stopped for a while to observe the weather. We saw some lightning, heard some thunder, and waited until we felt some sprinkles before we went inside! We had an awesome Show and Tell. We even got to turn out the lights so that Genevieve could show us how her “Pinky” nightlight works. After that, we did some Montessori work and some crafts/artwork. We celebrated Hunter’s early birthday during lunch and Tristan, her brother, came to visit! At nap time, Pinky came around and gave kisses and lights to every one! Ms. Daphne came for Spanish, and we did a fun activity to help us learn the parts of the face in Spanish!

Thursday was bubble making day at the Sprout! The Pre-tot, Toddler, and Primary classes all sat together to watch a grand bubble-making presentation. We talked briefly about what it means to “experiment” and said that it’s how we can test things! We tested 3 different recipes to see which would make the best bubbles! We made bubble wands out of pipe cleaners and used some plastic ones as well! During Spanish in the afternoon, we did puzzles on an Ipad to learn more about our faces!

Friday morning, we made glitter play-dough by mixing glitter and playdough! During circle time, we demonstrated how to use a fishing rod, and then went out for Splash day! We had plastic rods and home-made ones and used them to pretend we were fishing in the water! The theme of the day was camping, and so this, a story, our afternoon snack of vegan S’mores, and a trip to the deck full of tents—all came together for some great camping experiences. It was an excellent week!
