We had an awesome Monday, welcoming our newest friend, Milou! We spent the morning hanging out and exporing hula hoops after an awesome morning of working. In the afternoon, we had yoga. The crowd was super involved and attentive. Then, we decorated paper airplanes and watched them fly!

We spent Tuesday morning working away. When we went outside, we had a chance to work in the garden helping to dig and transplant our baby sprouts. Then, we worked hard, adding mulch around the playhouse, to make it feel more “homey.”WE spent some time staring at the beautiful blue sky, and saw a V of ducks flying across. Then, we had an awesome yoga session on the deck. When the weather is beautiful, we take full advantage!

Wednesday morning was spent trying on new dress-up materials. We tried our best to fly a kite, and even though there wasn’t much of a breeze, we had throwing it up again and again. We had tons of fun reaching in the soil for a hand full of dirt, and putting it in our planters. The kids planted corn! Then, we painted diamond shapes to make kites!

Thursday’s circle time was a huge hit, as we took finger puppets and made them fly! We used a can and a piece of cardboard to make a lever, and hit one side to make our finger puppets pop up. The kids had a blast trying it themselves (such a simple and fun thing to do!) We introduced some new works to the kids, and they loved them. When we went outside, we practiced climbing the dome. In the afternoon, we had a chance to use connecting unit cubes.

Friday morning we had a blast celebrating Ashley’s birthday! We sang happy birthday to us, and she blew out candles to make a wish. Toni visited us during snack to talk about shucking corn. When we went outside, there were corn waiting for us at the big picnic table. We had fun peeling and washing the corn as a community. We blew balloons in celebration of Ashley’s birthday, and the whole community joined in the fun. Later in the afternoon, we ate corn on the cob for snack, and Arielle read stories.

During Tuesday’s circle time, we read our “c” book. Every one was excited to learn what sound the letter “c” makes, and we were able to make the “c” with our hands. We looked in the sound bag to see what objects start with “c” and had a chance to use our sand-paper letter “c” to feel the letter gently with our fingers. We got busy working and having snack, and then went outside to build a castle! We used team work to make it big. Then, we headed inside and had lunch. After nap, we spent some time free-playing and talking on the phone. Then, we had yoga. We had a tiny bell we were able to ring, and we used a yoga bicycle to go on adventures. We went out and took lots of time preparing and making another sand castle. One of the challenges to building our castle was finding the patience to look at it with our eyes. Afterword, we destroyed it!

Wednesday we spent time working and talking about the rain. We went outside and used umbrellas. In the afternoon, we checked on our plants, and we each had a turn to water them. Then, we introduced our new pumpkin to the class. We talked about how heavy it was, and took turns trying to lift it. Then, we played a game of rolling the pumpkin. After rolling pumpkins, we used corks to make paintings.

Thursday we worked, had circle time, and then headed outside. We pulled a giant “flower” out of the garden and had a chance to talk about the stem, leaves, and roots. Every one had a chance to touch the large plant. We also learned that some plants are not meant for eating! Then, we noticed a dragonfly eating a bee. Friends who were interested had a quick chance to watch before the dragonfly flew away. We talked about composting, and painted our compost bucket. That afternoon, we went to the deck to do some pumpkin carving. We all sat around as we watched Miss Ashley carve the stem out. Then, we each had a turn to explore the “pumpkin guts.” We learned about the slimy texture.

Friday morning, we had a chance to meet Luke’s dog. He’s an old dog with no eyes. Some of our friends were a little frightened of him, but most were interested in giving him some pets. We had a picnic outside, transplanted a plant, and then did some community drawing for a community pumpkin patch that we’re creating.  We had fun exploring chairs while outside. Then, we played Ring Around the Rosie around the dome.  In the afternoon, we squeezed lemons and mixed food to make quinoa salad. Every one had a taste, but most were not interested in finishing the snack.

Monday was a fun-filled day where we spent circle time introducing the sound “a”  We got to talk about the sound bag, where different “a” items are kept. We spent time working after circle time, and then headed outside to build a “tent” using materials we already had. During yoga, we turned into frogs and did lots of hopping before laying down to relax. When we went out, we finger-painted a camping scene. There were many focused faces as they used their fingers as paint brushes.

Tuesday, we spent most of the morning watering our plants. We introduced new works, like the Velcro board and the knobbed cylinders. We talked about using our new materials carefully. We went outside and had a chance to make a happy birthday banner for our primary friend, Addie. The weather was absolutely stunning, so we decided to have a picnic at the table outside. It’s definitely something we will be doing more often as it was a huge success! In the afternoon we continued our Addie birthday celebration with some fresh fruit on the deck. Then, we had yoga! We made an awesome toddler train, where we sat down next to each other and drove together. At the end of yoga, we used straws to observe our breath. We blew through the straws and tried blowing ping-pong balls on the floor. When we headed outside, we explored the tent.

On Thursday, we started out the day with a surprise combined outside time. We turned it into a community circle time where we took turns singing to our favorite songs. We went in and used some of our new works. In the afternoon we took out the tent and took turns to our hearts’ desire. We built a fire using bark and construction paper, talked for a while about fire safety, and then warmed our hands on the fire. We had a picnic outside for second snack.

Friday, we spent the morning pulling weeds from the garden, adding dirt to the garden, and taking care of any earthworms we found. We spent more time working, and the in the afternoon, had a chance to use dot markers to learn about the letter a.

Becoming Butterflies!

We had a fabulous Monday morning! We hung out having free play, had circle time and snack, and then headed outside to start planting seeds! The kids got soil from a large bag, put it in their pale, and proceeding to dig small holes and plant seeds. We had a chance to get dirty and help life grow—a very exciting thing to do! We had lunch and snack, and finally got up to have some free-play and do some work just before yoga! Ms. Colette hosted the class, and we tried to pick fur balls up with our toes! We headed outside and used corn foam to make interesting sculptures (you spray them with water, they start to dissolve, and they stick together!) We ended the day!

On Tuesday, We spent the morning having free-play, and then headed outside to play some balancing games. We used a heavy marble-type ball to balance on a tray! Jackson smiled, walked around for a while, and got really interested in shaking the ball. Noah had fun trying to roll the ball around on the tray. Tula focused really hard and walked very slowly. Olive thought it was fun to try to balance on a beam as she tried to balance the ball. Sophie had fun, and was eager to let the next friend have their turn. Ancel enjoyed walking quickly with the ball on the tray. Genevieve walked around for a bit talking about what she was doing and then said, “No, I don’t want to do this anymore.” Kai had so much fun walking around with the ball, he didn’t seem to want his turn to end. Kian focused for a small while, and quickly moved on to things he was more interested in. In the afternoon, we watered our plants and had tons of fun during yoga!

Monday morning, we had a big dance party! We found partners and danced it up. Kian and Kai danced with each other! We went outside and used teamwork to build a huge mountain! We practiced not breaking it down, but instead “adding” to it to “make it bigger” and “giving” to it, to make it”grow.” We added sticks to it, and then starfish! Later, we went outside to watch our hermit crabs get some exercise, as well as have a change of scenery! In the afternoon, we spent lots of time painting with water on the chalk board!

Thursday morning, Paige’s dad, Skip, came to talk to us about art. Every one had a chance to see the artworks, and Tula and Olive enjoyed sitting and listening for part of his talk. Then we were able to make a thank you banner for Mr. Skip. In the afternoon, we used play-dough to make worms, and then practice using knives to cut with. We held the play-dough in one hand, and the knife in the other.

Friday we played outside while some kids went inside to start decorating their butterfly wings.  We then had a picnic. Later outside, we had Arielle’s dentist come talk to the kids about dental hygiene! We learned that mom and dad need to help with brushing, because toddlers’ hands don’t yet have the control they need to brush their teeth. We also learned that it’s important to floss every day. In the afternoon, we had a chance to finish the butterfly wings and get antennae to become full butterflies. Then, we helped make our own snack by crushing peanuts and rolling peanut-covered bananas in them! We had fun pretending to be butterflies the rest of the afternoon! It was such a fun week!
