Monday was awesome! We started out the morning finished up our Kwanzaa poster. This included putting glue on the backs of our pictures and gluing them. Then, we headed outside to enjoy the amazing weather. In the afternoon, we had some free-play and had some tea parties. Then, we read a book about shapes and had yoga with Ms. Colette.

On Tuesday, we had a great circle time using finger puppets. In the afternoon, we did our own yoga and fun pretending to be sharks in the water.

Wednesday we had a chance to start making our holiday projects. Then, we had a fire drill. We marched to the front of the school, had a head count, sang songs together, and went back to lunch time. We had some awesome work time and then Spanish time with Daphne.  When we went back outside, we had an awesome time throwing leaves up in the air.

Thursday, we brought a Christmas tree to school and talked about it during circle time.  We took turns moving the fake branches down to set up the tree. We used  shoe laces, corks, flowers, and other objects from around the room to decorate the tree. In the afternoon, we made Insta-snow.  Then, we had a chance to decorate stockings with glue and glitter. Then, we picked one of our radishes from the garden and talked about how food grows from the ground. In the afternoon while we were free-playing, the kids decided to make a train with chairs. They all used team work and figured it out together. They went to the jungle and the zoo. Then, we had Spanish and talked about the zoo in Spanish.

Friday morning, we started outside, having dance party. Then we decorated gingerbread men at the picnic table.  We finished up our holiday projects using glue. Then, we washed our hands really well to prepare for building a “gingerbread house.” Using cream cheese, graham crackers, and dried cranberries.

It was a great week!

The Bear Cave!!!

Monday, we started going over letter “b.” Some friends noticed how similar “b” and “p” are, and so we discussed their differences and similarities. We had some work time followed by snack. We had fun yoga time with Ms. Colette, and then started helping Ashley make a bear cave. We practiced “glue, flip it, and stick it.”

On Tuesday, Olive brought a book that we read during circle time. After, we had work, then dress up time, and finished making our bear cave. In the afternoon, we did yoga with Amelia. In the afternoon during snack, we thanked Milou and her family for the lovely flowers they brought.

On Wednesday we talked about bears and hibernation during circle time. We read stories about bears and put bears in our bear cave. Then, we talked about the celebration of Kwanzaa and colored kinaras and other Kwanza related images. We went outside to enjoy the cool weather. We had work and Spanish time in the afternoon.

Thursday, We built our bear cave and brought our flashlights and blankets to help make it more interesting and cozy. We explored what we can do with flashlights and had a very long circle time in the cave. We sang “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” and pretended to walk through grass, swim, use boats, cross a bridge, and go into the cave. It was a really fun and silly time. After nap, we went to hang on the deck (while Primary took a mini-field trip to our cave. We had Spanish outside in the beautiful weather. At the end of the day, we had the opportunity to write some holiday cards to family.

On Friday, we had so much fun watching the kiddos arrive in their PJ’s. We had circle time and pretended to drive cars. After, we headed to the primary room for a collective cooking project. We got to mix ingredients to make vegan waffles, and also enjoyed them for snack along with bananas and orange juice (in a cup!). Then, we had nap time and another fun circle time in the cave. This time, it was extra dark and cool, so it felt like a real cave! In the afternoon, Mike came to host our cooking class. We mixed flour and potatoes in order to make Latkes. For many of us, it was our first time trying the delicious treat. We had dress up and ended the day!

Such a fun week, it was!

Love,
Jackie

The Zoo, Spanish, and Dreidels!

We started Monday off stamping away on some paper. We did some work and play, and then had circle time. After circle time, we made a train, and headed to the zoo, and the farm. We took the crabs outside and cleaned out their tank. We were sure to thank Jackson and his family for taking care of the hermies (their new nickname) over the Thanksgiving break! We had yoga in the afternoon. During yoga, we found partners and stretched together.

During circle time, we took out items that start with the letter “z” from our sound bag.  After circle time, we did some work. Then, we headed outside to enjoy the weather and some new outdoor toys! We had a chance to look at Noah’s nutcracker in the afternoon. Yoga followed, and we had a blast. With Anne, we tried our best to do tree pose and use our toes to pick up balls.

Wednesday, we brought zoo animals to school. We talked about our animals at circle time and gave out zoo animal stickers! Some of us brought our zoo animals to snack. If we brought our animal to snack, we also pretended to feed them. Then, we took a trip to the zoo! We got to use our zoo animals during free-play in the morning as well. In the afternoon, we met Daphne, our new Spanish teacher! We learned a song about saying hello:

Hola

Hola

Yo te digo hola

Hola

Hola

Yo te digo hola

Yo estoy bien!

Y espero que tu tambien!

(I don’t know how to describe the melody!)

After Spanish, we used Zip-lock bags to mix paint and learn about colors.

Thursday, we used Playdough and bubble-wrap in the morning.  We talked about zebras during circle time, and then had a zebra painting project. After painting, we focused on work. In the afternoon, we had Spanish time again.

Friday started late, and every one showed up with smiles in their pajamas! We got warm hugs from Dom, and got to explore some bubble-wrap.  We finished our Hanukkah collage with some friends and talked about celebration. In the afternoon, we played with dreidels. Then for snack, we used strawberries and pretzel sticks to make dreidels that we could eat! We read books and warmed our hands by the fire in the afternoon, admiring our Christmas stockings.

‘Twas an awesome week!

We started out Monday using play-dough. Then we laid out our napmats out  to stay cozy in the cold.  We found a box and it turned into a house.  Cherokee’s dog came to visit.  Then, Abbey came and had yoga class with us.  We painted using orange and green paint.  It was an awesome day!

Tuesday we had a play-date with Malik and Ronav.  We read awesome books.  We did work. Then, we put hand prints on a heart, and talked aobut what we’re thankful for. Every one got to pick the color they really wanted.  We did yoga in our cozy socks, and hit a song bowl with a mallet. It was an exciting and calming thing to do. It was a fantastic day! Jackson’s family took home the hermit crabs. Thank you!
