Awesome Wednesday!

Alanna and Theo arrived first, seeking out the chalk board and writing center. Theo has been very interested in using chalk, and mimicking what I draw on the chalk board. He and Alanna made a quick trip to dramatic play, there they found sunglasses, a party hat, and a flower headband. They made their way back to the chalk board, Theo drawing his “family” and Alanna observing. As Ivy and Jeff (Ivy’s Daddy) arrived, Ivy found a book, and they got comfy in the comfy area. My other friends joined, interested in what they were reading. As more friends arrived, everyone quickly found something to do. Alanna was busy watering the plants, while Asher, Wren, Koichi were in the construction area. As Jackie arrived, we got seated for snack. We discussed the weather, and had a special visitor pop in, Ms Toni! She asked them questions and they eagerly answered, talking about what they were having for snack, their new classroom, and some new friends who have been having play dates with us, Olive and Noah, from the pre-tot room! We quickly washed hands and before we made our way to the carpet, Teo showed up with a awesome sound device, a piano that is flexible and flat. They each found a key, and made noise, exploring each key and what sound it makes. We then went to sit for songs and a special book, our awesome friends have been bringing in to share. Today was a story from Theo’s book, “Chicken Licken”. They really enjoyed pointing out the different animals, and repeating the silly names that they had like “Henny Penny”, “Lucky Ducky” and others. We also identified another A word, Acorn, which hit Chicken Licken in the head, and everyone thought that was so silly! We finished our circle time with the days of the week, then made our way to centers. Teo, Koichi, Wren, and Asher were in none other than the construction area, while Theo, Ivy, and Noah made their way to the writing center to see what I was up to. Because we talked about Acorns during circle time, we worked with color pencils and colored pictures of Acorns and Airplanes. Olive joined in, and found the yellow pencil to color with. We did a clean up, got shoes on, and marched outside. I began to build sand castles, using the sand toys and wet sand. Wren, Alanna, Paislie, and Asher joined me, and helped scoop and pat the sand down, as I would turn the toy over and make a star or castle, which they would quickly destroy, but had so much fun doing it! We marched up the ramp, emptied sand from our shoes, and went in for lunch.

After nap, we had our routine, cuddle, books, and potties, before we broke off into free play/art. Koichi immediately found himself in the library with a book, while Asher was busy in the construction area. I had put butcher paper out, with paint for some sensory exploration/finger painting. I asked my friends who wanted to paint, and Teo, Ivy, Noah, Wren, and Paislie all said “Me”. We put on smocks, and began to explore. Teo, focusing on his color, and section of paper, he was very quiet and focused, starting with one finger, then using his hand! Ivy, was hesistant at first, wondering why they were standing and not sitting, but quickly enough got her hands dirty, mixing both orange and blue together. Paislie dove right in, making straight marks, and circles in the orange paint, loving every minute of it. Wren found 2 different colors in front of him, using both hands to explore each one, he kept repeating, “blue and green”, I have “blue and green”, and Noah was ecstatic, dipping his finger in the paint and excitedly showing me, with a big smile on his face. Olive was observing, watching her friends make art, and  We painted for about 15 more mins, before washing hands and sitting for snack. We then got shoes from our shoe rack, and marched outside, ending our awesome Wednesday!

Much Love

Dom and Jackie
