Becoming Butterflies!

We had a fabulous Monday morning! We hung out having free play, had circle time and snack, and then headed outside to start planting seeds! The kids got soil from a large bag, put it in their pale, and proceeding to dig small holes and plant seeds. We had a chance to get dirty and help life grow—a very exciting thing to do! We had lunch and snack, and finally got up to have some free-play and do some work just before yoga! Ms. Colette hosted the class, and we tried to pick fur balls up with our toes! We headed outside and used corn foam to make interesting sculptures (you spray them with water, they start to dissolve, and they stick together!) We ended the day!

On Tuesday, We spent the morning having free-play, and then headed outside to play some balancing games. We used a heavy marble-type ball to balance on a tray! Jackson smiled, walked around for a while, and got really interested in shaking the ball. Noah had fun trying to roll the ball around on the tray. Tula focused really hard and walked very slowly. Olive thought it was fun to try to balance on a beam as she tried to balance the ball. Sophie had fun, and was eager to let the next friend have their turn. Ancel enjoyed walking quickly with the ball on the tray. Genevieve walked around for a bit talking about what she was doing and then said, “No, I don’t want to do this anymore.” Kai had so much fun walking around with the ball, he didn’t seem to want his turn to end. Kian focused for a small while, and quickly moved on to things he was more interested in. In the afternoon, we watered our plants and had tons of fun during yoga!

Monday morning, we had a big dance party! We found partners and danced it up. Kian and Kai danced with each other! We went outside and used teamwork to build a huge mountain! We practiced not breaking it down, but instead “adding” to it to “make it bigger” and “giving” to it, to make it”grow.” We added sticks to it, and then starfish! Later, we went outside to watch our hermit crabs get some exercise, as well as have a change of scenery! In the afternoon, we spent lots of time painting with water on the chalk board!

Thursday morning, Paige’s dad, Skip, came to talk to us about art. Every one had a chance to see the artworks, and Tula and Olive enjoyed sitting and listening for part of his talk. Then we were able to make a thank you banner for Mr. Skip. In the afternoon, we used play-dough to make worms, and then practice using knives to cut with. We held the play-dough in one hand, and the knife in the other.

Friday we played outside while some kids went inside to start decorating their butterfly wings.  We then had a picnic. Later outside, we had Arielle’s dentist come talk to the kids about dental hygiene! We learned that mom and dad need to help with brushing, because toddlers’ hands don’t yet have the control they need to brush their teeth. We also learned that it’s important to floss every day. In the afternoon, we had a chance to finish the butterfly wings and get antennae to become full butterflies. Then, we helped make our own snack by crushing peanuts and rolling peanut-covered bananas in them! We had fun pretending to be butterflies the rest of the afternoon! It was such a fun week!
