C-C-Carving Pumpkins!

During Tuesday’s circle time, we read our “c” book. Every one was excited to learn what sound the letter “c” makes, and we were able to make the “c” with our hands. We looked in the sound bag to see what objects start with “c” and had a chance to use our sand-paper letter “c” to feel the letter gently with our fingers. We got busy working and having snack, and then went outside to build a castle! We used team work to make it big. Then, we headed inside and had lunch. After nap, we spent some time free-playing and talking on the phone. Then, we had yoga. We had a tiny bell we were able to ring, and we used a yoga bicycle to go on adventures. We went out and took lots of time preparing and making another sand castle. One of the challenges to building our castle was finding the patience to look at it with our eyes. Afterword, we destroyed it!

Wednesday we spent time working and talking about the rain. We went outside and used umbrellas. In the afternoon, we checked on our plants, and we each had a turn to water them. Then, we introduced our new pumpkin to the class. We talked about how heavy it was, and took turns trying to lift it. Then, we played a game of rolling the pumpkin. After rolling pumpkins, we used corks to make paintings.

Thursday we worked, had circle time, and then headed outside. We pulled a giant “flower” out of the garden and had a chance to talk about the stem, leaves, and roots. Every one had a chance to touch the large plant. We also learned that some plants are not meant for eating! Then, we noticed a dragonfly eating a bee. Friends who were interested had a quick chance to watch before the dragonfly flew away. We talked about composting, and painted our compost bucket. That afternoon, we went to the deck to do some pumpkin carving. We all sat around as we watched Miss Ashley carve the stem out. Then, we each had a turn to explore the “pumpkin guts.” We learned about the slimy texture.

Friday morning, we had a chance to meet Luke’s dog. He’s an old dog with no eyes. Some of our friends were a little frightened of him, but most were interested in giving him some pets. We had a picnic outside, transplanted a plant, and then did some community drawing for a community pumpkin patch that we’re creating.  We had fun exploring chairs while outside. Then, we played Ring Around the Rosie around the dome.  In the afternoon, we squeezed lemons and mixed food to make quinoa salad. Every one had a taste, but most were not interested in finishing the snack.
