Carrot Thursday!

4/4/2013

It was a wonderful Thursday morning in the cold outdoors. Every one was busy digging. We found earthworms, stink bugs, rollie pollies, and caterpillars to keep us entertained. We came in for an early snack as it was quite nippy out in the backyard. As we ate, Dom brought out Ivy’s book about a dog and his red ball. Every one was interested in Dom’s story (it’s a picture book with no words!) and Theo and Ivy  requested that we read it a second time. Olive said she was not hungry, but was very interested in the book, so she had a really great view standing near Dom as she read! We sang songs at Teo’s request, discussed the days of the week, and talked about the weather. Soon, snack time was over, and we went off into centers. Every one was super excited to play in the construction zone today, so we moved the blue shelves to make more room for all their activity. Dom made an egg shaker with Olive as an experiment for some upcoming egg-shakers, and after getting some artwork done. While we were drawing, we practiced closing markers properly, which includes listening for a snap.  Finally, it was time to do our project for the day, creating a carrot garden out of our feet.  We sang Rub Your Hands, and took a deep breath at the end to settle and sit down before starting with the paint. Teo was first up, and we were sure to tickle his feet. He was saying “That tickles” all the while.  Next up was Theo, and he had a lot to say as he found foot painting very fun and interesting.  Noah was very quiet and focused as Dom painting his foot and toes. Paislie was very excited to be tickled and have her foot painted—she couldn’t stop giggling. Ivy was near her on the floor saying “Hey Paislie, does it tickle, Paislie?” and giggling as well.  Meanwhile, Olive was busy inspecting the keyboard and observing the funny event. As Alanna and Asher were waiting and watching, they kept themselves entertained with baby dolls. Asher was quietly slurring names of body parts to himself as he inspected the baby doll. Alanna was rocking her baby and talking to her baby. Ivy had a blast getting her foot painted and saying “that tickles, Dom Dom!” Ancel giggled a lot as Dom painted his foot, and was all smiles through the process. Alanna, too, giggled away. At last, it was time to wash hands and sit down for lunch.

After nap, Kenny was with us, and he entertained the early wakers with magnet tricks. Theo was asking “make it stand up, make it lay down!” excitedly. Olive was pointing and making comments with her words and sounds. Ancel was interested in the babies. We all got up, got changed, ate, and it was time to end the day outside!
