Easy-Going Tuesday

It was a chili morning as we rounded up the kiddos to go up the ramp, take off shoes, and carry them to our shoe rack. Every one is so excited to keep order in the room, and regardless of if we ask or not, we always have some eager friends who want to take their shoes and socks off to place them neatly in the rack. As we came inside, we used blocks to transition to washing hands. Often every one is too enticed by tower building to remember that they’re next in line for a hand-washing. Today was one of those days. Ancel, Paislie, Ivy, Alanna, Theo, Koichi, and Asher were held up for quite a long time using magnets and blocks before they got around to hand washing. We had a delicious snack of fresh fruit, and quickly moved on to some free play. Every one was at stations for just a bit before it was time to bring out the funky foam corn balls (I’m not too sure of their actual name, but they’re made of corn!). Every one got trays, (well, Olive was interested in magnets and puzzles at this time!) and sat down for this “sticky, slimy” sensory experience. Teachers went around with spray bottles spraying just enough to get them sticky enough to stick together. When asked what they were making Paislie said “broccoli,” Theo said “broccoli” as well, Ivy said “princess” Alanna said “I make a flower for give to mommy and daddy!” Asher excitedly said “look! Choo choo train!” Teo over-heard Dom talking about the cheeseburger she was making, and so, too, thought it was a good idea, “I make a cheeseburger” he said. Ancel was making a “choo choo”, and Noah and Koichi were busy creating untitled pieces. Ivy and Paislie stayed making their creations the longest, and by the end of the activity, had a large collection of funky foam corn-balls. After the activity, Asher, Theo, Teo, Noah, Ivy, and Ancel were interested in an experiment with the foam pieces. We stuck them in a bucket of water to squish them with our hands, and watch them dissolve into smaller and smaller pieces until they disappeared. We described them as “slimy” and “sticky” and talked about how they went from “big” to “small” until they were “all gone.” Then we went to centers again, and every one found something interesting to do until it was time to head outside. While outside, we read My “E” book, about elves, eggs, and elephants. We sang Ring Around the Yoga and fell down, and then had more free-play outside. We came in for lunch and nap.

After nap, we learned that Ms. Abbey Nagler is unfortunately sick and couldn’t make it to GS today, so we ate a quick snack and headed out early. We took on rollie pollie searches under the rocks, watered the garden, and ended our day!

Love,
Jackie and Dom
