Hoola Poops and Teeth Brushing

It was all smiles when our friend from Hoop Hoop Hooray brought her awesome hoola hoops to show us some tricks. She didn't get a chance to show us much because all our kiddos were too busy figuring out how to use the things. Joey was interested in pushing leaves, Wren and Jasper were busy trying to swing the hoops around themselves. Ivy, Asher, and Alanna took turns jumping through them. Ben and Theo had fun dancing inside the hoops. Teo lifted the hoops with all his might. Annabelle had a blast observing. Koichi had fun rolling them around. We stayed out as long as we could absorbing the coolest air of the day as we knew that this afternoon would be in the 100's. We went in for snack and circle time songs and split the group. Alanna, Asher, Koichi, Teo, and Theo decided to stay inside and use Play dough, kaleidoscopes, babies, and trains while Annabelle, Wren, Ben, Paislie, Jasper, Ivy, and Joey joined me outside. There were just enough hoola hoops out there for any one who wanted one to use it. Ivy tried her best to get as many as she could, Paislie had more fun playing catch, Wren kept showing me how he could move his hips like a hoola hooper, Ben, Jasper, and Joey kept making requests to roll the hoops as long as they could go, and I heard a number of friends referring to the hoops as "hoola poops."

This was our first day of a class in full attendance, and to my joyful surprise, we had one of the loveliest and calmest transitions from lunch to nap. Most of our kiddos took long naps! When we got up, we ate garbanzo beans and blackbeans and then started a fun toothpaste making project. We mixed:

3 tabelspoons coconut oil
3 tablespoons baking soda
1/2 a small pack of stevia powder
3 drops peppermint and orange oil
and in the end, we even added a little bit of fresh spearment from our garden

Annabelle, Wren, Teo, Ben, Jasper, Ivy, and Joey were all eager to show off their toothbrushing skills. Asher, Koichi, and Paislie were more interested in using magnets, trains and babies! Annabelle wanted Piggy with her, so we tucked him into her belt for safe keeping while she showed us her skills. Teo had fun showing us how he could use his finger as a toothbrush. Alanna, Wren and Ivy kept saying "I brush my teeth," and Joey made some really funny faces as he tasted the funny tasting toothpaste. (Dom and I tasted it and it wasn't nearly as sweet and yummy as we thought it might be!) Asher and Koichi spent a lot of time with the Play dough - they showed us how we can mix red and blue dough to make purple! Paislie wanted to spend a lot of time sitting on the potty and fixing her hair by herself! After all was said and done, we turned out the lights and had a fun dance party with one of our awesome strobe lights!

It was a fantastic day.

Love,
Jackie
