Our Sproutlets started the day with a little watering of the garden, and an exciting dash, Racing Toni around the playscape as she playfully told them "Nooo! I need spaaace!" Ivy, Alanna, Teo and Koichi were all laughing with her, having a great morning. We came in for a delicious morning snack. We all agreed that Theo and Asher would have fun in the pre-tot room today, as they had low numbers, and Theo has yet to visit.

When we sat for snack, Ivy found herself alone at the second table (each table holds six, and we had seven!). She voiced her longing to have a friend join her, and Joey quickly volunteered. After snack we moved on to morning circle time. We noticed that the calendar was still filled with numbers from the month of August, and we saw a great opportunity for some velcro number fun! Joey, Ivy, Teo, Jasper, and Paislie were deeply interested in removing the numbers and sharing their knowledge of the cool symbols. They all helped remove them and we learned that today is the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th! Teo requested a dance party and Jasper seconded that notion. We jammed out to the beatles and hopped around. Paislie showed us how awesome it would be to open the napmats and so we did, each child had so much fun jumping and dancing on their nap mats until it was time to clean up! We had such a fun time trying on costumes, hats, and different feather boas! Jasper enjoyed wearing the jester costume, while Alanna tried on the rainbow pancho and pirate hat, Koichi asked for help tying a shirt around his neck as a cape, and Ivy tried on the black cape, with bunny ears! We had a quick fashion show, and started clean-up for outside exploration time!

We marched outside to find the playground empty, and immediately began to explore the sandbox and garden. A lot of our friends were very interested in peeking over and in between the cracks of the fence, to check out the big and loud trucks and cars that pass through. Paislie, while hanging in the sandbox, began to explore our big, beautiful tree! I helped her into the tree and she was so excited, we started to look up into the branches, looking for and talking about animals that live in trees. Once she was all done, Jasper, Teo, and Ivy made their way, taking turns sitting on a branch of the tree.  Koichi was busy the whole time, dumping and pouring sand into different containers, using a pitcher to carry the sand from one place to another. Sandy and our baby friend, Julia, came out to say “Hello”, just as we were getting ready to go inside, we said a quick “HI, Baby Julia” than made our way in for lunch and nap!

After nap, we all had a nice, quiet book reading time, while some friends sat on the potty, some enjoyed their milk, and some were getting diaper changes. Once everyone was awake, we had a special guest, Leina, come in and read us a book! Everyone took a seat on the carpet, while Leina read “MEOWW, said the Cow”! Paislie and Koichi viewed from the side, while Ivy, Alanna, and Teo had front row seats and loved pointing out all of the farm animals and making their sounds! When Leina was all done, she made her way back to the primary room, while everyone fanned out making their way to the two tables. Jasper and Koichi sat patiently at the writing station working hard on their art work, while Teo, Joey, Ivy, and Alanna worked with new materials and Playdough! Theo and Paislie waited patiently for an open chair, by reading some books and “cooking” in the kitchen. After a few requests to go outside, we did a quick clean up, and Dance Party! We put shoes on those who needed help and marched outside for community pick-up and free play! What a busy, but fun day back at the Sprout!

What an awesome day! Love the dress up pictures and the tree pictures. You guys have so much fun at school, no wonder Alanna misses school on her day off!

Awesome day indeed! I love that Joey volunteered to join Ivy so she wouldn't have to eat her snack by herself! They clearly loved chasing Toni, playing dress-up, climbing the tree and having Leina read to them. Have you guys also been working with shapes lately? Ivy has been pointing out triangles, circles and hearts at the playground and in books. She's learning so much, thanks for another stellar blog post.
