The Letter "A"

We started our Monday, exploring the new classroom changes and checking out the new paintings outside on the fence and school! Kenny, a sub at Green Sprout, began a mural of the Solar System, which we are very excited to see the finished product! Theo found a cool periscope, which also doubled as a phone. Ben, Jasper, and Alanna were busy in the sandbox, digging holes, and shoveling sand into buckets. Ivy and Paislie arrived and we had a quick snuggle session before they made their way to the dome climber, Teo, Asher, and Koichi arrived soon after. Jackie came out, and we marched to the ramp, to remove our shoes. They each took off their shoes, shook out the sand, and marched inside were they placed their shoes on our new shoe rack! We did a quick hand wash, and AM snack. Jackie and I could tell they were eager to explore. We sat on the circle time carpet, and read 2 books, one from Teo “MiKi’ and the other from Theo, “Country Western Alphabet”. We finished it out with days of the week, and whats the weather? Once we were done, we made our way to the other side of the room, for a quick tour of the new centers. First, Practical Life: with counting lessons, a lesson about watering plants and some sorting. Next was the Cozy Area/Library: which has chairs to sit, books to read, and pictures to look at while relaxing. We also added Pictures to the wall which goes to the Making Connections display. The kiddos were excited to point out themselves and others in the pictures, and Jackie went through each emotion displayed under the picture. Then we made our way to the construction area, no surprise many of our friends already love this center, building fun roads and tracks and driving cars up and down it, using our imagination. We also added shelves, which Jackie painted roads on, which they loved to drive their cars and trains on! Last was the Writing Center and Dramatic Play Area. The Writing Center is equipped with pencils, paper, a magnetic board with the alphabet letters, and other pincer skill lessons. We will also be learning a new letter each week, so there will be a different assortment of items starting with that specific letter. Once we were done, everyone broke off into their centers. Asher, Koichi, Teo, and Ben all made their way back to the construction area, as Paislie, Alanna, Ivy, and Theo went to the kitchen and started to cook, while Paislie and Alanna tended to the “babies”. :) They explored for a bit, before it was time to clean up, wash hands, and get ready for Lunch. Many friends have mastered opening their lunch boxes and containers, and enjoy doing things for themselves. As we got situated for nap, Jackie read “HUG”, and before nap, all of our friends gave hugs to each other and said good night!

After nap, we did potty, milk and books in the cozy area. Once most of my friends were awake, I made my way to the writing center to start my lesson on the letter A! Theo and Alanna joined me, sat and listened, as we discussed the letter A, words that start with A, and how we draw A. Theo observed “it looks like a triangle”, and practiced drawing it on the chalk board. He soon migrated toward the construction area, as Ivy became interested in the letter A too. Ivy and Alanna sat down, and began an Art project, painting the letter A using Avocado peels. They enjoyed getting their hands dirty, and manipulating the peel to make different designs on their paper. Ben, Teo, and Theo soon made their way to the table to work on some art too! Ms Abby made her way to the Pre tot room, and everyone knew it was almost time to clean up and make our way to the carpet for some afternoon yoga! We had some special visitors join us, and many friends showed off their different poses. We said Namaste to Ms Abby, and got ready for PM snack. Most friends were excited to get outside, so we had a quick snack, got shoes on and marched out for a lovely afternoon on our awesome playground!

Much Love
Dom and Jackie

The updated classroom is wonderful; great job! Teo says he loves the "pictures corner" and my favorite is the blackboard wall. Way to go guys!
