Theo's Thursday

10/4/2012

Morning activity got started early Alanna, Paislie and Ivy were at work dragging the hula hoops around and clearning the fallen leaves from our ginormous tree. Joey and Asher were racing the green dump truck and yellow bus around the playground zooming by friends at high speeds. Wren was busy playing with and clinging closely to a small dinosaur toy, which he took very good care of. Theo was walking around telling teachers and friends he was turning 3 today (his friends are convinced, but his teachers know he's only 2!) Jasper was having fun hopping around and having one man dance parties while Teo was dragging the popper all around, even in the garden, where he usually doesn't have that opportunity. We made our way inside for morning snack and circle time. At circle time, we found a beat, and then sang the day's of the week song. We sang jump up and down and every one had a chance to get crazy. Toni came in for some fun, and we all sat down quietly to listen to Toni read a book about birthdays that Teo's family brought for Theo's birthday celebration. It's called Not Last Night, But the Night Before. I highly recommend this fun book as it held every one's attention! Koichi, Teo, Theo, Jasper, and Ivy were especially interested in laying down on the floor to pretend they were sleeping as part of the book. On each page, there was a "knock knock knock" on the door, and every one was happy knock on the floor to help tell the story. We did a "blast off!" after we pretended to sleep, and every one loved it. It was time to head back outside! We had only a few minutes of free play on in the beautiful weather, but we squeezed in a fun game of ring around the Rosie. As part of our theme, after falling down, we all try to help each other up. Theo, Alanna, and Joey "helped" Jackie up, making sounds of straining in the process. We met up at the fence where we took our regular picture and marched inside. Ivy was a great shoe helper today, helping Theo and Wren take their shoes off. We washed our hands and ate lunch.

As we were getting up, we all helped make a birthday card for Theo. We "signed" by putting two finger prints, which Dom turned into cute balloons. We also did potato prints with some old potatoes! We used potato halves to stamp black spots onto a paper, and then counted 8 legs as we drew them on the spider! Soon, it was time for Ms. Leona have Spanish time with us. We all danced and sang songs in Spanish. Then, we sang happy birthday to Theo in Spanish, making signs for "feliz" and "cumpleanos" with our hands! We ate Theo's "birthday cake" for snack (which i believe was basically cornbread with berries, delicious!) and every one loved it! We washed and it was time to head outside again. What a fun filled day!

Love,
Dom and Jackie

What a wonderful way to spend the day! Thanks for another terrific post. Teo sang his "modified birthday song" from Not Last Night But The Night Before several times tonight and added "happy birthday Theo" to the end. As I put him into bed, he said "happy birthday Theo" one last time. Silly twist on an old fave, anyone? Here it is, sung to the standard birthday song:
"Happy birthday to you
Squashed tomatoes and stew
Bread and butter in the gutter
Happy birthday to you"
