INCLUSIVE EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Chinese with Ms. Siu Gi

One aspect of our curriculum that sets Green Sprout apart from many of the other preschools in Austin, is our Chinese program. Siu Gi, our Chinese instructor comes once a week to teach Mandarin Chinese to our students, ages 1-5 years. The key to early language learning is to integrate language with a variety of fun activities, games, and songs. This method is called Total Physical Response. It has been shown to be both extremely fun and effective for young children learning a second (or third) language. Cool Panda has developed its own curriculum that relies heavily on TPR. Cool Panda Mandarin Chinese classes make use of songs, body movement, games, books and picture cards. Most, importantly, Siu Gi strives to make every class as fun as possible so that children feel like they are playing instead of learning a new language that might otherwise seem like a daunting or discouraging task.
Spanish with Ms. Isis

I am a native Spanish speaker from Mexico City. My family moved to Texas when I was three and I had the chance to learn English and Spanish simultaneously. We continued to move back and forth between the US and Mexico during most of my formative years, so I consider myself bilingual but also bicultural.
I am lucky to have had the opportunity to work in both countries in various educational settings. In Cuernavaca, Morelos I worked with children who were having a difficult time in school, behaviorally and academically. We focused on gaining emotional intelligence through game and play therapy, improving self-esteem, social and communication skills. During our sessions, I ended up spending a lot of time helping children with their English homework.
Here in the US, I have had the privilege of spending time in Montessori and public school classrooms working with children ages two to nine, immersing them in Spanish and Mexican culture while learning about development, cosmic education and the secrets of childhood. I really enjoy working with young people and my dream is to impart my love for learning languages to all of those who come to know me.
I am delighted to be a part of the Green Sprout Community!

Yoga with Ms. Darcie
Having a background in dance through university and living in New York City, Darcie has been working with children in preschool and elementary school for over twelve years. She loves guiding energetic, creative imaginations through movement journeys, providing a space for little ones to grow their bodies, minds, and spirits. Each time together, Darcie aims to co-create through adventures and imaginative stories, interweaving yoga poses, breathing exercises, creative movement and music along the way.
