Peace Education
Peace Education provides an environment that recognizes the uniqueness of each individual and teaches a respect for self, others, and our environment. It is our responsibility to provide our children with the safest, healthiest environment possible, as well as opportunities for our children to be proactive members in our community, working toward the elimination of violence, fear, and destruction. Peace Education is reflected in our environment through materials in our classroom, such as books and pictures, the music we listen to, field trips, daily activities, and larger-scale projects which incorporate peaceful messages and an appreciation of all cultures. We also follow a Peace Education Calendar that highlights a different focus each month. Examples include Awareness of Others, Global Awareness, Celebrations of Peace and Love, and Conflict Management.
Peace Education also encompasses our positive guidance strategies. Our guides at are trained to only use positive methods of discipline and guidance to ensure that our students are developing their own personal self-esteem, self-control, and self-direction. The first five years of life are extremely formative in a person's life. It is our ultimate goal to help each individual child develop a strong emotional intelligence while they are at Green Sprout Preschool.
Emotional Intelligence includes self-awareness, managing emotions, emotional self-control, recognizing emotions in others, and handling relationships. Every interaction between a child and his/her parents, teachers, or friends carries a message. The types of interactions and relationships that are most beneficial to children are warm, intimate, responsive, caring, and available. It is our priority at Green Sprout Preschool to develop and maintain these consistent and enduring relationships with each student so that students feel validated and can freely express themselves. Any discipline that is used at Green Sprout Preschool is individualized and consistent for each child, appropriate to the child’s level of understanding, and directed toward teaching the child acceptable behavior and self-control.
