Pre-Tot Tulips
Guide to Student Ratio: 1 to 5
(Maximum of 10 students in a classroom)
During the second year of life, major milestones, including a baby’s first words and steps, are met. As in our infant program, sign language is a key facilitator in our classroom to encourage language development. It is crucial to our teachers that we maintain an environment that stimulates a child’s fascination with exploring and understanding our world. At this age, children spend much of their time observing and imitating the actions of adults and peers in their surroundings. During this stage in development, our goal is to lay the foundation upon which further knowledge and learning will be built, such as problem-solving skills and building an early vocabulary.
The Montessori curriculum is a big component of the day in the life of a pre-tot tulip. Practical life skills, sensorial, fine motor and large motor works are incorporated in the daily routine as well as during their "work" time. Music, dance, free-play, outdoor exploration, sensory activities, art and construction take up the majority of the late-morning and afternoon. The pre-tot guides facilitate independent play and group activities that are engaging and meet the developmental needs of their group.
